It's interesting that the seeming narcissist Paul1405 seemingly labelling Armchair Critic and ttbn as narcissist- isn't this classic DARVO- It's been claimed that any attempt to hold a narcissist accountable leads to avoidance and a reverse accusation- distortion of reality. I probably favour the existential perspective as everyone views reality through the eyes of their own traditions- cultural relativism- each internally consistent in their own way- the success of failure of which can only really be determined internally within the community. Yes "The Real Rukshan" seems to be more reasonable than the authorities (at least in the video I saw).

In a democracy the sovereign seeks a mandate. There may be a level of death that the community is content with because when you deal with absolutes (ie greater than 0 death is unacceptable) the cost in other dimensions (such as the economy) is exponential.

My view is if the authorities had have locked Australia's borders through the ports and airports the new strains would have never hit Australia. And over time we would beat the old strains- and with strong national quarantine measures allow very small numbers from secure nations. It seems the authorities have decided (on our behalf) that paying billions of dollars from the public purse to the pharma companies forever is the better way
