The Japanese Defence Minister has suggested stronger cooperation on China between our two countries, given the inward-looking and faffing about of the Biden U.S. We both have more to lose than the U.S does; it's our region.

Good idea?

Certainly a good idea, but we need even more countries in this, especially India!

Yes. India, Vietnam, Indonesia and all regional countries. But Japan will be the most useful and best equipped.

You don't want to go making decisions that you may one day regret making.
Could picking a fight with China be one of those times?
Think it over carefully, don't make quick decisions.

You're not just choosing a course that you feel you can live with, but a course others will also have to live with.

Is Mise,

What's funny about it? Your misspelling of equipped is quite amusing.

AC,

Nobody is picking a fight with China. The CCP is the aggressor.

China is very powerful now but it'll be alone at the first sign of aggression !

ttbn,
The funny bit is that Japan has but a fraction of the equipment that India has.

For example:
Japan, 700 aircraft, 330 of which are fighters.

Indian Air Force,1,700 planes, 900 of which are combat aircraft (mostly dual purpose)
and that’s not counting the Army, the Navy and Coast Guard aircraft.

Is Mise,

All due respect to India and it's value to us, but Japan is very smart and more efficient, I believe.

Individual,

Not sure about that. There's Russia. And who knows what China is capable of doing to force people to cooperate with them via the BRI they have signed up for - including many European countries who have fallen for economic opportunities offered by China.

ttbn,
You said that Japan was the best equipped, but it isn’t, and we haven’t even mentioned nuclear capability.
What’s funny about “equipt” it’s a perfectly good English word, buy a dictionary.

Dear Ttbn,

«And who knows what China is capable of doing to force people to cooperate with them via the BRI they have signed up for»

In war time, signed agreements are not worth the paper they were written on, only the guns speak!

Si vis pacem, para bellum!

Yuyutsu

They say not to quote Latin phrases, but since we are, we do!

“Quod ali cibus est aliis fuat acre venenum” Better fits I believe.

Rapacious politicians and their cronies, striving for their own personal gain, is our own weakness as a Nation.
The Chinese are masters at plundering that particular Achilles Heel.

The belt and road is a distraction. Always reflect the question which is most relevant to the issue, and usually the best hidden as a consequence of the unpalatable nature of the possible answer to that question.

In this case, the answer to the hidden question is “Trojan Horse”.

Is Mise,

As always, it's a waste of time reponsonding to you. I'll leave you to your problems.

Yuyutsu,

In war time, or any other time, we can’t be sure of what anyone will do, so it's best to hope for the best, but expect the worst.

No point in quoting a dead language. It's over 60 years since I studied Latin it, and I have no more intention of looking it up than I have of looking up references people are constantly using in the mistaken belief that they prove that their opinion is the right one.

I’ll just add, so that we get a better picture.
ADF: 59,095 active and 28,578 reserve and 110 combat aircraft.

Note that the ADF comprises all three military services.
