The Baltic States desperately try to show their disagreement with neighbouring countries’ policy. The authorities demonstrate their full despair to cope with Russia’s and Belarus’ political intention to follow their own economic and political path. This fact even makes the Balts angry and annoying. There are several causes of it. Unfortunately, having escaped from the Soviet Union, they immediately fell into dependence on the EU and NATO’s policy. The more so, the Baltic States did not manage to become nor a real military power neither a flourishing economy in the region. But they continue to reject any other state development model besides chosen by them.

But it turned out the Baltic States today lack their own effective tools to influence its neigbouring countries. That is why they have to solve this problem by attracting foreign help. They found as they think the only way out. To make the influence more prominent, the Baltic States allowed NATO troops to deploy in their territories. It is sorry to say, but the less noticeable their voices in international arena have become, the larger military contingents arrive.

When you are a small weak nation living next door to a large powerful nation which is imperialistic and sees you as a natural part of their sphere of influence you have three options:

1. Submit to the neighbour
2. Try to find another large powerful friend to provide some measure of protection
3. Do neither and await annihilation - Poland 1939.

This is so typical of the European mindset in general. Live in fear of Russia, ask for the US to provide defensive cover and then complain about and ridicule the nature of that cover.

Given the nature of the new regime in Washington, the Balts might just find out very soon what not having the full-throated support of the US is like.

Lithuania a threat to Russia or any its pro-Russian neighbours? Surely that's a joke? And should not be taken seriously. History
speaks for itself. We can only trust that under the new American leadership - the US will maintain it's allegiance in the Baltic -
and that the Baltic States will continue to flourish and be heard
on the internaional scene. Russia has enough problems of its own within it's own territories - it needs to focus on those problems and leave the Baltic alone.

The Soviet Regime needs to get up of its bum and try working
instead of wanting the Balts to supply them with goods as was
done in the past. Lazy bastards - leave the Balts alone - and work for a living instead. The Balts are doing fine without you. They need you as much as a dog needs fleas!
