The media has always made a fuss about the event, but not so much this year. The ABC website of 6th. February heralded the event, claiming that Australians “mostly from Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese ‘communities’ would be “coming together”, demonstrating once again the belief that all Asians are the same.
I know nothing about Koreans, but my experience tells me that Vietnamese wouldn’t be all that keen to ‘come together’ with Chinese. Vietnamese have their own culture and festivals, as probably Koreans do.
Anyway, putting aside ABC ignorance, there has was very little publicity about the Chinese New Year in 2021, with all the old footage of past events used as a cheap fill in for real news.
I wonder why.
