Low Key Chinese New Year

I took a rare look at my online calendar this morning and found that Chinese New Year celebrations had occurred from the 12th. to the 15th. February. Nothing in my paper diary, which always notes such events; nor on the calendar hanging on he wall.

The media has always made a fuss about the event, but not so much this year. The ABC website of 6th. February heralded the event, claiming that Australians “mostly from Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese ‘communities’ would be “coming together”, demonstrating once again the belief that all Asians are the same.

I know nothing about Koreans, but my experience tells me that Vietnamese wouldn’t be all that keen to ‘come together’ with Chinese. Vietnamese have their own culture and festivals, as probably Koreans do.

Anyway, putting aside ABC ignorance, there has was very little publicity about the Chinese New Year in 2021, with all the old footage of past events used as a cheap fill in for real news.

I wonder why.

Obviously, it’s become increasingly more difficult for most Australian Governments to find an expedient course through the community hatred of Chinese.

And dint you just love the new one where China is now divided into two distinct parts, the good part is every little thing from Hong Kong, and the bad part is everything from those terrible Communists over on the mainland..

Maybe someone in power decided to accept the fact that their propaganda in support of Chinese good people, was never believed in the first place.

China is so worried about everybody de-coupling from it that it has asked the US if it would like to reset their pre-Covid relations.

I assume Biden will tell the Chinese "America is back! So go jump yourself parasites!"

Answer- Interesting. We'll see if Biden in his role has the courage to return trade to the US itself- in his fragile state- and despite his coterie.

I believe it would be wise to de-couple from China more. China has been engaging in an arms race with the US, India, and others- they are a proven threat- the US should not give them privileges such as trade until the threat is alleviated.

Sadly given Biden's surmised links with China the soap opera will be fascinating and terrifying.
