The US doesn't rely on NATO for anything. Without the US NATO is utterly powerless to do anything that would even remotely like military action.

While Trump was applying pressure on the EU nations to live up to their promises of spending 2% of GDP on their various military, there was a chance that the EU nations would be able to stand on their own feet militarily.

But now we are back to the 'good old days' where the EU nations will make promises without ever intending to meet them and the US will pretend to believe them.

I have great hope that under the current US presidency - the US
will keep it's commitment to its allies. And Russian influence will diminish everywhere. I'd rather have the US than Russia any time of the day, week, or year! And many people in Russia ALSO agree. Hence the current political problems that Putin and his henchmen are trying to quell.
