ttbn: You must be living in some sort of alternative reality, because here in real world Australia we have direct evidence that lockdowns DO work!!

All states besides Vic and NSW managed to ELIMINATE (not just suppress) the virus by use of lockdowns that lasted less than a couple of months.

And once you have ELIMINATED the virus people can go (and currently are going) about their lives almost as per usual with the only main exceptions that they:
1) Can't go overseas - which the majority don't do anyway in any given year.
2) Nor go interstate when the other state doesn't have a grip on the virus (looking at you Victoria with your inept government), but most people don't go interstate much in any given year- and if they do it usually isn't for very long anyway
3) Nor go to a local region within your own state where there is an outbreak - but these regional outbreaks restrictions are usually very short lived (the one we had here in Queensland was just three days)
4) During times of outbreak be possibly required to wear a mask in public - which may slightly inconvenience you but is not really an inordinate demand considering that many people in many occupations have to regularly wear one for hours on end (eg: stone masons, surgeons, nail salon workers, farmers spraying chemicals, et.)
5) Leave contact tracing details when going somewhere where more than a few people are gathered- this takes just mere seconds to do
6) Can't attend really massive crowd events in the numbers that they use to - though they still can go to large public gathering just at reduced numbers
7) Try to maintain 1.5 to 2 meters distance from others (non-family members) in public - but who wants to be closer than this to complete strangers anyway?

These few things are not too much as ask for in exchange that we remain virus free.

Here's one or to thinkabit about:

Why are we heading towards a trillion dollar national debt?
Why is domestic violence so much higher?
Why are mental health services being so stretched

It's not Ebola virus. Corona has more than a 99% survival rate and were all likely to get it over the years, just like flu (even with vaccination, yes).

The reaction to it in Australia, including locking citizens out of their own country with arbitrarily low caps on returnees (and talks of locking them out altogether!) is simply HYSTERICAL!

Nathan,

I think it would be just as easy to 'live with COVID-19' as with any other range of viruses - Ebola, Elyssa, Zika, Swine Fever, Chicken Fever, Ross River flu - a bit like the way we learned to live with bubonic plague and small-pox.

Anyway, a lot of us haven't got Covid yet, so we're probably immune, tough, part of that herd, we've beaten it.

Yeah, right.

Joe

Thinkabit, lockdowns 'eliminate' the virus, for awhile (ha!) but what of their cumulative health effects in the long-run? Given the tiny proportion of the population for whom Corona is fatal, and given the even smaller proportion for whom vaccination will make the difference between life and death or ongoing illness, they are a hysterical response. http://tinyurl.com/3ra32od8

Influenza, which is less discriminating than Covid about the demographic it kills, is something we're all likely get at some point. with or without vaccination. So it will be with Corona. No overthrow of governments or stuff like that, we'll always live with it. The panicked response right now is because Covid is novel, but the novelty is receding.

Lockdowns are really working a treat in Victoria with the most draconian lockdowns - 800 deaths. The entire rest of he country with saner solutions - 59 deaths.

The reason there were 800 deaths in Victoria was a shifty deal between "Someone" in Victoria and a failed Kings X bouncer who started his third security Company. His first two went into admin I assume not paying any tax. The Company however was supposed to be "Indigenous" as in a famous footballer on the board.
They got 30 million from Victorian taxpayers and got the virus from security personal to family working in Aged Care. That caused 800 deaths of the elderly!
A hand picked judge ensured this would be be hushed up and now we have the gold standard hypocrite Chinese Andrews claiming to have gold standard quarantine. Even our hopeless media have been forced to ask some questions rather than praising the dear leader.
I remember some idiot here posting how badly Sweden acted but now it seems they got no worse without any Nazi tactics by their politicians, amazing!
