Dear Shadow Minister,

Oh my goodness, really? Given Denmark didn't impose any significant lockdown measures until mid March how on earth do you imagine these would have any degree of influence over the first quarter figures?

Look mate, you were completely exposed as once again having made up Sweden's economic performance.

"Sweden has not fared worse than the other Nordic countries economically rather the opposite."

Now you are scrambling to claw back a scintilla of credibility by bringing in first quarter figures for just one other. Pathetic. Time to give it a miss and try again another day.

Shadow minister,

There's some valid logic in your argument. After all, if we spent nothing on hospitals, no matter what people might be dying from, we could save a fortune, maybe millions of dollars in return for each new death. Given that something like 200,000 Australians die each year, many from diseases which are currently called 'preventable', we could be saving hundreds of BILLIONS of dollars by not treating them. Hundreds of BILLIONS ! Wouldn't that be great ?! Far lower taxes for everybody !

Yes, the death rate in Sweden is higher than elsewhere in Scandinavia, but the economy has suffered somewhat less than in those other countries. But clearly, Sweden has come out on top economically, perhaps to the tune of billions of kroner or Euros or whatever, in return for just a few thousand extra deaths.

As you hint, perhaps we need to look at the trade-off between deaths and economic activity more sympathetically.

Joe

Joe,
>But clearly, Sweden has come out on top economically
WTF do you mean? All the indicators point to the opposite conclusion.

But Aiden, the Swedes can still enjoy a sauna and a hot tub whilst munching on a nob of their favourite "docendicken sausage", even if Uncle Hazel and Aunty Gretel can only be there in sprit. What more could you ask for?

SR,

As Denmark started its lockdown in early March the 1st quarter figures are valid unless of course, you are looking to massage them to try and cover up your bulsht claim made earlier.
