Andrews has had to back down on his intention to give non-police thugs the right to detain people on a whim. The Omnibus Bill will still go before parliament.

Why hasn't the Opposition petitioned the Victorian Governor on this matter I wonder. She has the Reserve Powers to ask governments for amendments to Bills, or to refuse to give assent to Bills. There is no point in having a 'crowned republic' if the advantages are not used.
