SteeleRedux,

What do you think of India's River Link Project? Long term failure or long term success? Why?

Should ScuMo be selling more water from the MD River Basin to Chinese controlled cotton plantations in order to promote his jobs-and-growth economic policy which really only seems to benefit cashed-up Chinese migrants who use the benefits to buy up more and more businesses and properties under a Chinese umbrella for Beijing interests?

What we are experiencing is weather. The low rainfall is due to the strongly positive IOD, specifically an area of anomalously cool ocean below Indonesia. The IOD is weaking, but still strong enough to reduce Australia's rainfall. It is well accepted that ocean temperatures influence rainfall.

Could it be possible to use geoengineering to make ocean surface temperatures warmer and increase rainfall, or at least make it more reliable? I'd imagine that such an idea would make the greenies apoplectic, even angrier than they would be were a nuclear power plant to be built in Nimbin. The climate gods are already greatly angered by the great capitalist folly, so imagine how much angrier they would become should we attempt to mitigate our punishment with such blasphemy.

Fester,

Is the weather just water in a particular form?

(Or in case of droughts, drying climates, etc., a lack of water in a particular form?)

Think about it ..................

The water temperatures off the South East coast of Australia are cooler than normal which has led to less rainfall on the South coast of Australia. This is the condition for widespread fires in the area. The idea of heating the oceans might be impossible, but it would give more evaporation. Eden's average water temperature for December is 19.9C at the moment it is 19.3, that is 0.6 below average for December.

Jervis Bay NSW Based on our historical data the warmest sea in this day in Jervis Bay was 22°C but today is 20C. Note today it is a whole 2.0C below the warmest December reading.

Misopinionated,

And a squirrel is a nut on its way to the ground, as the philosopher Rapoport noted. It makes you seriously wonder too - which came first, the chicken or the egg.

Perhaps there is also weather which is down but not much which is up, and a lot which is neither. We desperately need a lot more down weather.

Hi Mr O,

The dry weather is certainly due to anomalously cool surface water as Josephus affirms. If those waters could be warmed there might be more rain. What's more, the effect would bring a result quickly. What impact will a whole bunch of solar panels and windmills have on Australia's temperatures and rainfall?

Cheers
