Is Australia moving towards a U.S style employment system?

I was recently walking the streets of a capital city in Australia, to see by accident someone dressed up as a salad roll or sandwich, handing out leaflets to passers by.

Personally I couldn't take one of their leaflets.

I hadn't seen this before in Australia. I was left thinking is Australia moving towards a U.S style employment system, like the above?

By the way, yes or no, really isn't good enough here. This matter is very serious for those people directly involved in these types of work practices - and the matter needs to be discussed in more detail out in the public realm.

with multitudes of jobs available in some mining towns and fruit picking areas people who are out of work need to change their mindsets. There are only so many tax payer funded jobs for the elite (usually need some irrelevant Arts degree to obtain) that this country can afford. Unfortunately many of these jobs do more harm than good and would not be missed if done away with. Apprenticeships need to be encouraged and all the bureacratic red, green, yellow and pink tape removed so minerals can be pulled out of our ground and cheap electricity again becomes available. Donald Trump has done an amazing job in America defying all the critics and those with Trump Derangement Syndrome. More African Americans in work than ever before. We could learn a lot from America rather than China.

Tradies underwear has launched the Tradie Aussie
Fit undies. Their campaign of Tradies Underwear launches
"Aussiest undies ever." The TV commercials feature
famous personalities and celebrities - with slang
and Aussie humour attached. Very laid-back approach,
but at least it's Aussie and does feature Nick (Honey
Badger) Cummins, and Aussie ladies. Taking a page out
of American Sales techniques.

Then we have KFC - that has also launched fried-chicken
themed wedding services in Australia. More American
influence.

And lets not even go to discussing - Maccas.

So seeing a person dressed up as a sandwich on our
public streets - should not come as a surprise. We've had
Trump - and other costumed creatures featured
on our streets - including during many festivals and
parades - featuring anything from politicians to religious
figures.

Australia is becoming more diverse and acceptable of what
it will tolerate. Also permits are required for these street
activities.

It seems that whatever works to get messages across -
is going to be tried. And it will of course provide
employment for those game enough to try it.

Sandwich board advertising is not unknown in Australia, and there is nothing particularly American about. Nobody has to do it, but if they are OK with it, there is nothing wrong with it. Not taking a flyer is not going to make any difference, nor is asking other people what they think about it. It's a non-issue, all part of freedom of choice and action in a country where not enough people are prepared to give something different a go

Yes Nathan I have noticed a proliferation of roadside traffic distractors. Everything from Pizza Boy, to a thing dressed up as a "lemon". Not sure what that one was about, could have been advertising Shifty Sams used car lot.

What should be of concern is the American trend in employment, of child exploitation, migrant work abuse, cash in hand nonsense, casualisation, wages and conditions being ripped off. The introduction of the begging bowl mentality through some system that requires a cash handout (tipping) from a customer for the worker to obtain a subsistence wage.

runner behind the times some what; with multitudes of jobs available in some mining towns and fruit picking areas". The mining town jobs went some time ago with the collapse of the mining boom. As for fruit picking read as above. Do you hang out on the side of the road with your placard "REPENT! The End Is Near! Hell Is At Hand! Free Archy Pell! etc etc.

I worked in Sydney some 30-40 years ago.

In those days there used to be the ubiquitous bloke (maybe it was a blockette, couldn't really tell) dressed up as a koala or frill-necked lizard or sometimes a galah haunting the exits of various train stations. They were soliciting donations for Greenpeace or some other save-the-world group.

This type of thing has been going on for decades. Nothing's changed.

"Don't panic".
