Stepping well outside its remit, the City of Yarra Council has advertised for a ‘Climate Emergency Officer’, to cost ratepayers $87k-$94k p.a.

Who would have thought that this bunch of amateur politicians, busybodies and SJWs would have the expertise, let alone the authority, to declare a ‘climate emergency’! And what is the ‘urgent action required by all’? After all, despite the world spending $US162 billion this year on renewable energy, and despite the fact that by 2030 $US1 trillion will be spent on the Paris Agreement, there has been, and will not be, any measurable impact on temperatures whatsoever by the end of this century.

Well, Yarra Council wants the successful applicant to “design, deliver and/or promote climate emergency information, programs and action”. Also mentioned: “behaviour changes”, mobilising campaigns related to “climate emergency” and to increase something described as “long term-buy in”. There’s lots of other waffle too tedious to repeat. They can be seen on LinkedIn.

Waddadotheymean? They need a new copy writer before they need another climate-crank.

It is suggested by the Quadrant Online editor that this would be a good job for a person who enjoys scaring small children and taking the mickey out of adult fools.

Hey ttbn,
Some people often say "Unbelievable!"
Well, me being me, in that I have to do the opposite just to be difficult;
I say "Totally believable!"

- In fact I'm not sure why this hasn't happened everywhere already.
We should've expected this new climate authority be initiated on a council by council basis.

I mean they do need to establish a 'climate authority' on a local level to ensure compliance if they wish to move forward with their plans.

[Dec 3 2018] "Just this week, the UN’s environment programme said the voluntary national contributions agreed in Paris would have to triple if the world was to cap global warming below 2C. For 1.5C, they must increase fivefold."

"That is why I have asked France, Jamaica, and Qatar to lead the mobilization of the international community to materialize the $100 billion per year from 2020 onwards to support the developing countries both in mitigation and adaptation. And that is why it is so important to replenish the Green Climate Fund but also to make it more operational — and in particular in relation to small island States."

AC,

Trust the UN to continue espousing rubbish.

Australia has always been over-governed, with too many laws, many of which are ignored or not administered by a third rate judiciary.

More recently, it has become apparent that we are over-governed by idiots. Councils should be abolished; there is no logical or legal reason for their existence.

And that's just Brisbane !

For this reason, the Tribunal considers that on the basis of a broad market assessment it would be appropriate to recommend that councillors’ salaries be increased by 2% effective as of 1 July 2018, which is a date of commencement consistent with the 2017 Terms of Reference.

This increase would result in a base councillor salary of $160,938 per annum.
