For Newstart earners, targeted in the Wide Bay area, who receive about $650 a fortnight, those placed onto the system would have their income payments transferred into cashless Indue payments of $520 a fortnight and $130 in cash every two weeks.

Indue is a privately owned company, but according to the website the cards in place have “restrictions in place to prevent the purchase of alcohol, participation in gambling activities or withdrawal of cash.”

** Interesting to know who gets the interest on all the money in the accounts. **

PhilipS,
Good question ! However, I'm struggling with the thought of what will the public servants who are supposed to do all his work going to do if private firms are engaged to do their work ? Get paid top dollar for even less effort !
It's time Scomo & Co started to wear their reality glasses.

So people on the 'cashless' card have 20 % of their lifelong entitlements in cash. That sounds like enough, except in the case of poor alcoholics and heavy smokers, or those with expensive drug habits. My heart breaks.

Yes, of course, they can stand over their grannies and aunties and demand their cash as well as their own. Food banks and charities will provide the shortfall in necessities for all.

People make choices. They can choose not to get skills, not to work, to live on crap diets and/or cherish their addictions. They desperately need more dialysis machines, better funeral plans, more homeless shelters, quicker ways to get on the NDIS.

Or, of course .......... Their choices.

Loudmouth - 20% cash, don't know 1 landlord that lets you pay rent by card. So that makes things hard.
