The Women's movement?
Hardly old chap. The majority of white women voted for Trump as well as Roy Moore despite their predilections and crass and demeaning behaviour toward women.
This was always likely to go along party lines as the issue of abortion will too.
It was more a battle around decency and truthfulness and railing against the treatment of the less powerful.
The suffragette movement started out very much like the metoo movement with many of the same attacks directed at it. Now it would be unthinkable, except for the odd misanthrope, to want to deny female participation in our democracy. Did the suffragettes over reach on occasion? Of course, but that never served to deligitimise the movement. But it was the anti-slavery party of the GOP who most supported the suffragettes. This too was split to a large degree along party lines.
The metoo cause is right and just and unstoppable, and it will change behaviour for the better.
Dr Christine Blasey Ford's testimony is another pivotal step along this path. There will be young men who will now have second thoughts about their behaviour. There will be young women who will be prepared to speak out when they are transgressed upon.
Dr Ford seems to think that the death threats and the inability for her to return home are a price she was prepared to pay. The cost of exposing sexual violence and abuse is never insignificant but her actions will give other strength even if the immediate result is dismissal.
The days were the behaviour of a young Brett Kavanaugh was normative are now thankfully being challenged and rightfully so. It hopefully gives greater comfort to those raising daughter of their own.
