The Chinese ambassador to Australia has threatened our trade with his country (The Australian), which seems to be par for the course when we say or do anything China doesn't like. Australia (not China) needs to do more to “increase mutual trust” , according to ambassador Cheng. This time it's about “irresponsible and malicious accusations” and “security and safety incidents” involving Chinese university students.

Nothing about Chinese attempts to influence Australian politics with money and incursions of Chinese nationals and dual citizens; nothing about Chinese aggression in the South China Sea or Xi Zinping’s unashamed expansionist policies in the region.

Any accusations against China are “groundless”: it's all about Australia - and anyone else not Chinese it seems.

Some of the effort being exerted on sucking up to China needs to aimed elsewhere in the world before it's too late. The importance of China to us, while not to be sneezed at, is very much over-exaggerated by people feathering their personal nests.

The Chinese ambassador to Australia has threatened our trade with his country...

Chinese are feeling very confident.

Maybe we in Australia should follow the South African Government lead, and repatriate our farms.

dd,

Can't see our gutless, greedy political class doing that, but it would be a good idea. Snuggling up to China is probably the worst thing they have done.

Shows you why Trump is miles in front of other Western leaders. A man who puts his country first. No wonder the Marxist regressives hate him.

The Chinese have good reason to feel confident because they are in a position of economic strength...and anyone who doesn't think so is a Jingoistic fool looking for a place to happen.
Instead of acknowledging the reality, I read the jingoistic comments arising from the inhabitants living in this hole in the ground whist begging the Chinese to buy their offerings.
Misbegotten lot still waiting for the Empire to rise again instead of getting on within it.
Respect is universal!
Some of you obviously think that if you were to find yourself sitting in the gutter wondering where you're next meal is coming from that the US is going to share theirs with you....wake up US doesn't mean 'us'

Trump wants a world trade war, with China as his principle target. The US is in a strong enough position to wage such a war, and probably would score a victory or two. Australia is not in the same league as the US, that we can afford to antagonize our number one trading partner. After all the Chinese owe us nothing for any past favours. With the Australian governments usual lapdog pandering, from all the way with LBJ to whatever you want Mr Trump, it likely we will blindly follow America, as we always do, and unfortunately come of second best as we always do. Its all up to Mr Money Bags in Canberra, I can't have confidence that our political leaders will do what is in Australia's best interest on this one. Trump will say "Jump Australia!" and Mr Money Bags will say "How high!"

Wow! Paul has direct linen to Trump. Paul knows that Trump wants trade war. For all things Trump, tune into Paul.

The ABC reports today that Australian warships were challenged by the Chinese navy in the South China Sea today. Better see if we can get Paul a hotline to Beijing, similar to the one he has to Trump. He could do some negotiating, perhaps with the help of that highly diplomatic and level headed hero of his, Richard di Natale.

According to you ttbn, the lefty ABC is all fake news. They must be making this up.

And you claim "Chinese attempts to influence Australian politics with money and incursions of Chinese nationals and dual citizens; nothing about Chinese aggression in the South China Sea or Xi Zinping’s unashamed expansionist policies in the region."

Have you been in communication with Mr Xi Zinping to get his secret policies, when did he tell you he was into unashamed expansionism as a general policy.

Wow! ttbn has direct linen to Mr Xi Zinping. ttbn knows that Xi Zinping wants China to expand. For all things Xi Zinping, tune into ttbn.

ttbn, I hope you didn't lose anything in the translation. Maybe you can get that level headed hero if yours, Corny Banana to help you out on that one.

"The Chinese ambassador to Australia has threatened..."

China is a bully which took over Tibet by force and tortures its people. It also threatens Taiwan and the freedoms of the people of Hong Kong, not to mention the non-existent freedom of its own people.

- Why IS there a Chinese ambassador to Australia? How come Australia allowed him to be here in the first place?

Yuyutsu,

“- Why IS the Chinese ambassador to Australia? How come Australia allowed him to be here in the first place?”

Because of greed and corruption. Our political class and big business see nothing but dollar signs, and they are prepared to sacrifice the rest of us for the sake of money. Political parties and individual politicians have taken money from China. They are dealing with the devil in the form of the Chinese Communist Party which is never very far from Chinese people and businesses no matter where they are.
