Religions and believers do exactly the same thing today. If you can't sell love...sell fear.
Job may well be one of worst chapters for undermining the God they say they love in the Bible. Yet they, as usual, totally miss the point.
Like Moses they need their sky person to be the most horrid, magical and scary God in the universe who punishes everyone but them so they can be tricked into feeling special.
It is unbelievably pathetic.
They are no different to the believers who crucified Jesus in that story.
If Jesus came he would hopefully preach peace and the rabble that claim to follow him wouldn't be able to handle it because they live in the fear of hellfire and damnation. For them to feel good about themselves others have to suffer.
Of course they believe Jesus is the God of the Old Testament so Jesus might just decide to drown the whole world, them included, because they don't understand spirituality, love and peace one bit.
They assume the right to speak on behalf of God and Jesus but usually don't actually know anything anyway.
My favourite verse in the Bible is this one...
Matthew 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Believers would have to say that Agnostics and Athiests are people poor in spirit and heaven belongs to them because Jesus said it.
Jesus would know that the people LEAST likely to get things wrong and blame God for everything are those who question everything and apply their logic and intellect to the God story.
The Bible proves that because the Bible makes God out to be an a...hole and yet somehow they think that is love... AMAZINGLY CRAZY THINKING ON THEIR PART!
