I have fired off the following to the ABC, which is self-explanatory although ABC Radio will operate on different times in the Eastern States.

"Along with many viewers blessed with minds, I would like to see an honest public statement identifying who in your senior staff first proposed that Lateline be terminated, who ran with it and who enforced it. Who is/are trying to dumb the ABC down to the level of the rubbish channels? Names with direct personal contact details.

"Additionally who made the decision to reduce ABC Radio broadcasts in Perth to 6PR levels or lower by at least once replacing the 7.45 am news with the white noise of a cricket broadcast and several times doing the same to AM?

"Who are the enemies of "Your ABC" operating within or above its ranks?"
==

The reason for writing to the taxpayer funded ABC is the opposite to the motives of those who criticise the ABC for what it broadcasts, and focuses on accountability for what it REMOVES from its offering.

This focus is in spite of my own and others' irritation over its hours of broadcasting endless juvenile attempts at comedy, especially on Wednesday evenings.

I'm surprised that anyone would miss Lateline or, for that matter the ABC itself, should it ever pass away due to incompetence after being cut off from the public purse, which any sensible government should do.

Julian, although it may not have been an official comedy offering, Late line has become such a poor joke with it's puerile attempts at brainwashing the population with lefty propaganda over recent decades, it is definitely past it's use by date, for this, it's intended purpose.

It is better it's painful death throes be expedited to avoid further embracement. The staff who have done nothing useful in a similar time frame may as well simply sit at home, doing nothing useful, as take up office & studio space doing the same.

If only we could get someone sensible into the organisation, they could do the same with the whole operation. This would at least stop filling the airwaves with the tripe they now produce.

""Who are the enemies of "Your ABC" operating within or above its ranks?""

Robert Conquest's third law of politics applies here....

"The simplest way to explain the behavior of any bureaucratic organization is to assume that it is controlled by a cabal of its enemies."

The second law is also rather apt as regards (y)our ABC...

Any organization not explicitly right-wing sooner or later becomes left-wing.

Dear EJ,

Twenty seven current affair years must be at least
a century in human years. But don't be disheartened.
Terrific reporting and great interviews will continue
on the ABC. Yes, Lateline did produce an innovative
brand of late-evening current affairs. Many great
journalists and production teams have worked with
Lateline. The current teams have produced excellent
viewing. However the ABC will continue to do its work
with new programs and investigative daily news.
And lets not forget that Four Corners, the 7.30 Report,
Q&A, the Insiders are still with us.

Also Emma Alberici will now become the ABC's Chief
Economics Correspondent and Stan Grant has been given
the job of Chief Asia Correspondent.

Leigh Sales, Tony Jones are still with us.
I have no doubt that things will continue to follow
in the same excellence of Lateline - which for 27 years
the current affairs show will go down as one of the
great programs in the history of ABC current affairs and
Australian journalism.
