That really big one has not given George Brandis pause for thought, though. As the dual-citizen fiasco progressed, Malcolm Turnbull foolishly trumpeted that the High Court Court would clear Barnaby Joyce. In jumped George with, “The Prime Minister is a very accomplished lawyer and has practised before the High Court and knows better than anyone”.
Well, the practise did not pay off, and the AG made a chump of himself again.
Not done yet, he said a few days after that “I have no reason whatever to believe that there is any other Coalition member who is in the same positions as Joyce”. (The Australian). Just before the President of the Senate (a Liberal few people have heard of by name) pops up to say that he is a dual citizen, slapping the AG's unsmiling face.
This incompetent government minister has even suggested that the the Constitution be changed, to prevent him making more stupid blunders, perhaps?
Then, of course, there is the monumental lie he told, during his pompous rant against Pauline Hanson, that the burka was a “religious garment”. Many Muslims chipped in to tell him it was nothing of the sort, but acknowledgement of his falsehood was not forthcoming.
That's three strikes just here.
At the time of his red-faced scolding of Pauline Hanson, the Opposition cheered him on. His own side of politics was visibly embarrassed by him. Of course, Brandis is not the only embarrassment to the Government: there is the PM himself and Christopher Pyne. But it is more than embarrassing that our top law officer is so loose of lip.
