I am currently undertaking my Masters of Clinical Psychology and I am looking for participants to help me with my research. My research aims to explore community understanding and awareness of child abuse and mandatory reporting legislation.

If you have a spare 15 - 20 minutes, I would really appreciate it if you could please fill out a short confidential survey.

Below is the link to complete the survey and please don't hesitate to contact me if you would like any more information.

Anyone is welcome to participate so feel free to share the link and get the community talking about this important issue.

Thanks in advance

Look a female genital mutilations in Muslim communities for cultural reasons, and in Western societies for gender change believing gender is fluid. Both are child abuse as it affects their whole life.

Psych the Psych's.

So I took your survey, out of curiosity.
Not so much because I cared about the topic, but was interested to know how psychologists were approaching it.
What type of questions were they asking and why those particular questions?
What were the motives behind this survey;
What possible 'predetermined' motive was behind the survey, what did it set out to achieve; and what conclusions were they hoping to come to, and actions pushed for as a result of the survey.

The first part of the survey was 50 questions, but many of these questions are more or less completely pointless without a context.
Depending of the particular 'context' that comes to mind of the person surveyed, a vast majority of questions could be answered yes or no.
Without a context; you completely fail to put in an accurate perspective just exactly what child abuse is.

The survey is largeely pointless, and I think psychologists themselves are completely pointless if they cannot acknowledge the flaws in their own research strategies.

Adding up the answers and working from data compiled 'as a score'.
It's dumb, pointless and a waste of everyone's time, and you will come forth like experts and portray yourselves as having done this specialised important work, but you're completely inept at even attempting it, in my opinion.

(This has nothing to do with you as a student, but directed at your field in general)

If there are flaws in way you go about your research then the results will also be flawed.
This survey gauges peoples thoughts when concerning the idea of how much more rules and regulations can be mandated onto them in regards yo proposing action.

It does nothing to address the causes of child abuse, and other related problems in society associated with it.

Armchair Critic…

I too did this survey. I've had extensive experience with this subject…not from an academic view, but real life stuff.

The survey was researching attitudes to reporting. Not the actual child abuse itself.
I didn't have a problem with it, but I acknowledge your observations.

The only practical use I have observed for psychologists, is to write confirmation reports for court cases, where their input is used by a judge of the court, to determine outcomes for the child.
The direct view of a damaged child, is generally unbelievable. Invariably, they are coerced to tell porkies, by those around them with the most to lose.

I have rarely observed a court make a decision which would be acceptable to the child itself. Decisions are entirely viewed through the prism of the perceived safety of the child. That's understandable, but not always the best option!

There is no way to successfully eliminate child abuse. We must live with the consequences, as does the child. It's a tough life, and children certainly do not need a start in it, commencing from early adult abuse.

AC...

Poverty is child abuse. If there are not sufficient resources to acceptably care for children in family poverty, where is the justice in removing the child deemed neglected through lack of food and inadequite clothing.

Short of a concerted effort to lift those in poverty out of it, poverty will continue, along with technicle child abuse.

Unfortunately, more are being driven into poverty by Government neglect of its citizens.
Excessive power bills are one sure way to do it. High rents and lack of social housing, are other great contributors to child abuse. I blame Malcom Turnbull and Bill Shorten for child abuse. It's a national disgrace!

Yep!....we're all concerned about children...until there's a dog, cat or bird that needs to be saved.
There are those that genuinely commit themselves to the safety and welfare of children, and my hat is off to them.
Take away the financial aspect....how many do you have left?
Do you see a judge in the family court giving his/her time freely?...no neither do I

Hey Diver Dan and ilmessaggio,
When I did the survey, I answered most of my questions from a 'none of my business' point of view rather than an 'obligation to intervene' point of view.
But the issues where I did draw a line was on issues of a sexual nature around children and of kids being clothed and fed properly.

I think I should do something about my Socialist Base Level Jobs idea - that would remove the 'I can't get a job' excuse and 'create a culture of employment within the ranks of the unemployed'.
From my point of view its really the only main thing that can fix the dark side in the fabric of society.
- Fix things properly

I think there will always be some child abuse, but I see no reason why smarter policies couldn't be devised to lessen the problem.
I don't openly blame politicians for child abuse, but I blame their incompetence in developing policies, ideas and strategies that would actually make a difference.
