I use Google for bread and butter things, not anything topical or controversial. Unfortunately, many people, including OLO posters use it so they don't have to think for themselves. Hence the wacky ideas we are often subjected to. Great Google with a grain of salt.

“Just Be Evil” – The History Google Doesn’t Want You To Know

Also states that it is up to you if you use google as there are alternatives.

Even down the page some of the user comments are worth reading.

Philip S,
"Simple fact you pay google and they will put you (company organization products etc) ahead of everyone else."
Part of the reason for Google becoming the world's favourite search engine is that unlike their old rivals (Yahoo, AltaVista, Lycos etc) they DIDN'T do that. Sponsored content was listed separately and clearly marked as such.

It is easy in this case to test the complainant's claim (see original post link) that,

<In the comments afterwards one supporter wrote:

“Google 'gays against same sex marriage'. Nothing. Then switch browsers to duckduckgo and search for the same thing. LOTS of gays against it. [*expletive*] Google!”

So I tried it and it is exactly as my supporter says.>

Anyone here can do similar. Be a scientist too by conducting the same experiment. If it is possible for say activists to rig the first page or two of Google searches that would be of concern, wouldn't it? -Sides don't matter here it is censorship if it is occurring.

30 years ago a friend in the police force complained to me that he had
to go into a pub brawl with a young girl as partner.
He spent half his time trying to stop the brawl and the other half
trying to rescue his girl partner.
She was being pinned up against the wall by one of the brawlers and
was doing nothing because she could not move.
After it was over the bloke who was holding her said he was protecting
her from being hurt.
