google has recently sacked an employee for stating the truth about men being wired better than women for IT. Nothing like having the thought police as your employer. Pathetic!

My standard rule when using Google to research a controversial issue is to basically ignore the first two pages of search results and jump to page three. It saves time not having to wade through what Google thinks I SHOULD read as opposed to what I want to read. We should enjoy having that choice because the time is rapidly approaching when we won't.
I've only recently started using DuckDuckGo so I have no firm opinion as to its 'opinion' at this point. Posted by mhaze, Sunday, 13 August 2017 3:51:18 PM

Of course, what do you expect from Google?
Try this go to google news.. look at the organisations it chooses to give you news.. never any alternative view other than 'establishment' point of view. And look at the articles.. usually contian few facts and are big on narrative and conjecture.. no investtigative jouralism.. twitter opinions of people you've never heard of... 90% of news is propaganda, most people just don't realise they are being sold bs yet, because they assume there is some kind of responsibility to report news honestly, but there isn't. Take this as an example. Look up the story where Debbie Wasserman-Shultz resigned after the Podesta leaks during the US Presidential election, where it was shown that the DNC had conspired to give the Primary to Hillary Clinton instead of Bernie Sanders. We all know the media supported Hillary, she was even given debate questions in advance. But where is the story that the mainstream media was complicit in trying to put the first United States dictator into the Whitehouse? No, nothing about that in any of the news is there? They are all bloody complicit in all the lies in support of the globalist co-opted progressive liberal agenda. What's new? Wake the hell up? What do you think I've been trying to tell everyone? Why do you think the right is so angry about fake news? And FYI, they've been attacking alternative media for months... what do you think the saga over advertising companies having the wrong types of ad's displaying on their sites was about? - It's a concerted effort by the establishment to shut down advertising income of alternative media, and therefore shut down alternative points of view. Steering Committee's, Media Relations... What is it all about? It's about selling BS, and most of you lap it up and then go back for seconds... Why are you surprised? I mean seriously take a look around, we've had the liberal agenda human resourses people training people to push the 'diversity' line through all corporations. Basically you're not allowed to hire on the basis of who is best skilled for the job now, you have to hire on the basis of minorities and feminism, to the point they are setting aside qualified men in favor of women on the basis of gender, to take charge of police Stations, and Front line combat roles.... On the basis of gender. This is what is being taught to Business Management Diploma students when they do the modules on human resources. If students object or argue the point, they fail the subjects and are left with the debt, it's indoctrination to push a liberal agenda. This pushes the agenda through at the corporate level, the media push the same agenda on tv, radio, and funded activist and minority groups push the same agenda as well. Anyone that disagree is labelled racist, bigot, xenophobe, whatever to neuter anyones ability to argue the issue on a logical basis. And you people are convinced we have democracy. It's so far detached from reality, that one might be accused of having a borderline mental illness just considing it. Posted by Armchair Critic, Sunday, 13 August 2017 4:27:05 PM

Simple fact you pay google and they will put you (company organization products etc) ahead of everyone else.
For too many things google are a waste of time using as the first and many pages have absolutely no relation to what you are searching for. Simple fact companies pay for "words" the more you pay the closer to the 1st page even if your products have no relationship to that word. Posted by Philip S, Sunday, 13 August 2017 4:48:15 PM

I use Google for bread and butter things, not anything topical or controversial. Unfortunately, many people, including OLO posters use it so they don't have to think for themselves. Hence the wacky ideas we are often subjected to. Great Google with a grain of salt.

Interesting video podcast on google.
http://www.corbettreport.com/just-be-evil-the-history-google-doesnt-want-you-to-know/ “Just Be Evil” – The History Google Doesn’t Want You To Know Also states that it is up to you if you use google as there are alternatives. Even down the page some of the user comments are worth reading. Posted by Philip S, Sunday, 13 August 2017 6:33:47 PM

Philip S,
"Simple fact you pay google and they will put you (company organization products etc) ahead of everyone else." Part of the reason for Google becoming the world's favourite search engine is that unlike their old rivals (Yahoo, AltaVista, Lycos etc) they DIDN'T do that. Sponsored content was listed separately and clearly marked as such. Posted by Aidan, Monday, 14 August 2017 11:09:25 AM

It is easy in this case to test the complainant's claim (see original post link) that,
<In the comments afterwards one supporter wrote: “Google 'gays against same sex marriage'. Nothing. Then switch browsers to duckduckgo and search for the same thing. LOTS of gays against it. [*expletive*] Google!” So I tried it and it is exactly as my supporter says.> Anyone here can do similar. Be a scientist too by conducting the same experiment. If it is possible for say activists to rig the first page or two of Google searches that would be of concern, wouldn't it? -Sides don't matter here it is censorship if it is occurring. 30 years ago a friend in the police force complained to me that he had
to go into a pub brawl with a young girl as partner. He spent half his time trying to stop the brawl and the other half trying to rescue his girl partner. She was being pinned up against the wall by one of the brawlers and was doing nothing because she could not move. After it was over the bloke who was holding her said he was protecting her from being hurt. Posted by Bazz, Monday, 14 August 2017 1:48:50 PM

None of these online czars are trustworthy. An accidentally open Mike in front of Angela Merkel broadcast her asking Facebook's Zuckerberg how 'we can stop the online criticism of multiculturalism.' Zuckerberg replied, "WE ARE WORKING ON IT".

That would not seem to be the suspected 'preferencing' where Google's 'knowledge' of you from previous search interests is used to skew your search results. -Which is without your agreement and is presumptuous and annoying.
