They were doing it in the 70s as well.
I remember seeing a bikey stripped to his y-fronts, by the side of the GW Highway, just out of Bathurst, whilst the police carried out a search, no privacy what-so-ever.
There was a bike event on at the Mount,
Cars were also being stopped and searched.
I was living near Bathurst at the time and when I got home a good friend and I changed into suits, placed a rifle and a shotgun each and ammunition on the back seat of his Humber Super Snipe (which was unique in having the roof and top half of the cabin covered in black vinyl, the car had been hail damaged).
The car looked very expensive, we were very well dressed and we drove through half a dozen roadblocks without being stopped once.
One law for the apparently rich and another for the peasants.
