As part of the discussion I wrote:
"I'm sure the good folk at data adjustment central are already on the job. At some point we'll find that they've done one of those miraculous 'data adjustments' which will retrospectively decrease the 1995 temps and thus, having tortured the data, it will confess to whatever they demand. they've done it so many times before it hardly even gets commented on any more."

As predicted, in 2015 scientists from NOAA came out with a paper which made adjustments to the data and disappeared the hiatus. The paper became known as Karl15 (main author Tom Karl) and the new data as the Pausebuster data.
From the outset the paper was doubted. It was rushed into print to beat the Paris climate meeting deadlines. Science magazine breached its own rules to do so.
Now a whistle-blower has come forth to lift the lid on how the game was played...

I won't cover all the issues about how they played fast and loose with the data. You can read about them via the link. But one interesting point to my guess made in the same that they would change the level of significance used, this quote from Bates ..."I questioned another co-author about why they choose to use a 90% confidence threshold for evaluating the statistical significance of surface temperature trends, instead of the standard for significance of 95% — he also expressed reluctance and did not defend the decision."
When Trump pulls the US out of the Paris agreement it will consequently collapse. Australia's policy to reduce emissions will become nonsensical.
With sceptics now or about to run NASA and the EPA, the strong pro-climate change policies of those organisations will change. And the sceptics within those organisations will be emboldened to stand up against the so-called Hockey Team consensus.
