Malcolm Turnbull and his Coalition colleagues will not say: it's a plebicite or nothing during their term of office, even though they know the senate won't agree to the plebicite.

As Turnbull has not said 'it's my way or the highway', it's odds on that he'll do a deal with Labor, and bypass the people as Shorten wants. He has just backed down on an "iron clad" promise over super, to save a measly $180 million over 4 years; he is likely to chicken out on SSM, which he personally supports. The depths of his deviousness and deceit cannot be plumbed.

What do we expect, this liberal 'wet' has been and still is a dud.

He is prancing around the glob seeking out photo opportunities while paying no attention to the ticking bomb at home, the closure of our car industries and no doubt spends more time on his own investments than on what's best for the country.

His backing down on super, let's face it, this was a complete 'brain fart' of a policy, should draw an apology to some of his colleagues who lost their jobs because that was a key electrol issue yet just like Rudds refusal to listen to experts, he went off and did what he thought was best, which is a pretty easy choice when One; he has no understanding of real working people contributing to their own retirement and Two; regardless of what he does, his 'set for life' tax payer super will only be there to top up his life time tax payer support pension in the event his extravert lifestyle catches him short.

Evidence is there in the fact that despite having held the top job for 12 months, nothing real has been achieved, and the most devastating issue that we are about to face, the car industry closures, takes a distant second, if getting a mention at all, to the likes of SSM.

As for SSM, the small number queers in society, some of which would not marry anyway do have a choice, that is to vote labor and get their way, which comes at huge risk, or persuade those opposed to allow the promised plebiscite. I for one want my opportunity to vote no, just as some want the same opportunity to vote yes. However, all ministers must accept that the peoples decision is final and should a plebiscite be held, it should automatically be introduced as law and not be further debated. And should he cave in and allow parliament to decide, it will be at his peril.

What all politicians need to understand is that there is a new elephant in the room, and that is Pauline Hanson as a large majority of defectors will head her way in the future.

Whether that is a good or bad thing is not the topic of this discussion, but it is a real reality to consider moving forward because like it or not, she is here to stay. As I have said before, she, like Brexit and Trump are not accidents, they are a shift in societal attitudes from people who feel they are contributing yet being ignored.

I am sure a plebiscite wouldn't be needed if the obvious solution of not wrecking the Marriage Act was chosen, by having a separate Act for homosexual unions.

Why isn't the alternative being discussed?

Rehctub,

Yes, I'm looking forard to voting no. And so should the yes voters be looking forward to expressing their views. The difference is that the pros come from a group which is only nominally democratic. If they are not homosexual themselves - some of whom would vote yes, some would not - then they are holier-than-thou Marxist manipulators using the SSM issue as a further step to the chaos that would give them control.

Otb,

Wouldn't that be as bad as 'recognition' of you know who: more stark division, and different rules for different Australians? Just a thought.

Plebicite or Nothing? Or what?

I for one will not accept a plebiscite, we should have a referundem. Its we the people who make the nations major decisions, it is we the people who are the masters not the servants.

By accepting a pleb we are accepting that they are the boss and they determine who will make the decision.

The real issue here is why is any human sexual identity or gender issue of sufficient importance that a pleb is needed?

Sexual identity and what sexual activities two consenting adults choose to engage in is nobodies business and its sure as christ not the bloody govt business.
