Gee this forum is so BOOORING! I blame Malcolm and the huge amount of booring do nothing Turbullism we have to suffer daily. I didn't think I would ever say this; "Please someone bring back Tony" Australia is in danger of being bored out of existence with Malcolm running the show.

@Fed Up American, hear hear! Mate you are not alone, though most days it might feel like it over there.
fwiw i offer some links to some other sites polls etc how right you are and that I think a MAJORITY of Americans actually agree with you The Public, Academics, Scientists, Politicians, and Climate Science ‘activists’ can all learn ‘How Brains Think’ and why Reason is 98% Subconscious Metaphor via https://georgelakoff.com/videos eg Global Economic Symposium 2013 – interview with George Lakoff [edited intro] “The most important challenge we’re facing today has to do with Unconscious Cognition. That means that most people do not know that 98% of their thought is unconscious. Consciousness is the ‘tip of the iceberg’. And when we study the unconscious we find that all politics is ‘Moral’. So therefore the idea is that all Policy is ‘Moral’ too – it’s either the right thing to do or the wrong thing to do. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjNwXx2DwcQ Sometimes The Truth Hurts. //What is this thread about?//
Jesus, I hate dumb hippies. Look at the frigging thread title: it's about the American Government. It's OK not to give a fig about what silly seppos do in their own country. Lord knows I don't. But if you're not really interested in the subject, the polite thing to do is ignore it and move on, rather than throw a childish tantrum because other posters aren't providing you with sufficient entertainment. Make your own entertainment, Paul: I'm sure you can think of a thread starter that will get the rabid tories really frothing at the mouth. Posted by Toni Lavis, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 3:40:20 PM

Hi Toni, please calm yourself, hate is such an emotive word, I don't use it myself. Peace from the flower child, I will freely admit politeness is not my best attribute. although I tend to exercise it more in public places like restaurants, than on this forum. The question was rather rhetorical, as it is obvious what the thread is about. Thanks anyway for your concern.
Just on the subject, I do not believe America is in any danger of becoming a democracy anytime soon. Like Australia, they have managed to get along just fine without it for a couple of hundred years so I don't see the need for change at this late stage. As for starting a new thread, I shall do that, as I have a subject to air which is closer to home, just up my street in fact. It may get the rabid's going, I hope so. Isn't there a footnote in some section of the Constitution ( the Burley Griffin one not the slave-owners' happiness one) that these 6 united states are part of the other 4 dozen states?

The real power and the real problem in this country is Congress.
Think about it. Congress has no term limits unlike the President. We have members of Congress that have been in there for 30 or 40 years. They have a much better retirement plan than you or I do and it is funded by us. They don't have to follow the rules of Obamacare (I really hate that term)because they have a single payer plan that should have been offered to the rest of us but it wasn't because the Insurance companies have to get their cut. These things really irritate me but something that happened last week really got me mad. There was a bill introduced to fund research for a cure for the Zika virus. Sounds good right. Problem was the bill didn't pass. How is that possible you ask. Who would vote down such a thing. Well as it turns out quite a few members voted NAY because someone attached a Defund Planned Parenthood to it as well as some Military spending. This is outrageous. Why can't a bill be introduced for a vote that has nothing attached, and have it voted on for its merits.
This type of thing goes on everyday and there isn't anything we as Citizens can do about it. Congressional approval is at about 18% as of last week. Congressional approval hasn't been above 20% for the past decade. If we don't like how they are running this country and how they are representing us then we should have some recourse as far as their office is concerned. I think that Congress forgot that they work for us. We elected them State by State and they work for us. This country isn't going to get unscrewed until we force Congress to do some actual work.
I don't care who becomes President. They don't have any real power.
