We have a close-knit community of English speaking family values with almost no long-hairs or bald heads. Shoes are traditional. And they without exception drive on their side of the road and are rarely sideways round bends.

"barrage of anti-police, anti-authority and lets face it, anti-Australian"
Typical comment from a member of the rabid right who favours a authoritarian police state, and if your not a supporter of the OTB style authoritarian police state then you are considered anti-Australian, more like anti Nazi. Beach, are you trying to insinuate Greens, the ones you often refer to as the "protest party". don't want missing 5 years olds found. Your first Hitler like comment sums you up to a tee. Still claiming you are the Mr Moderate of the forum. LOL p/s I didn't open your link, as a matter of PC safety, I have not done so ever since you posted one containing a virus, with no explanation or apology. Yes, otb ..the story is good enough to stand on its own as a thread starter.
There was no need for the added extra - a la "...serially disaffected, the cynical protest party politicians and lobbyists with an eye on getting access to taxpayers' $$..." Great news that they found the little girl! Myself and a whole lot of other people were busy tweeting any new advice for searchers during the search. I won't take this opportunity to put the boot into anyone - if that's okay with otb? Posted by Poirot, Monday, 25 July 2016 7:44:01 PM

It would not be nice if any " anti-police, anti-authority and lets face it, anti-Australian negging in the media," people were involved in the work of searching there. Let's hope Queensland Police sorted out the bad eggs before they became active.

Did anyone watch Four Corners tonight and how the Northern Territory Government is running a Juvenile Guantanamo Bay.

Jocelyn just wanted to be free, but she was hunted down, caught and arrested by 100's of people much bigger than her and with superior technology at their disposal. Is this what you call "Good news"?

Yuyutsu,
"Jocelyn just wanted to be free, but she was hunted down, caught and arrested by 100's of people much bigger than her and with superior technology at their disposal. Is this what you call "Good news"?" That is the most bonkers thing you have ever written. Jocelyn is not a polar bear or a lion bound for a zoo...she's a five year-old human. Five year-old humans require older humans to care for them - or do you advocate giving all tots their "freedom"? Posted by Poirot, Tuesday, 26 July 2016 5:40:14 AM

Five year olds are endangered and only have 1 year of that age then are off to learn correct spelling and balanced journalism. One dash for creative liberty and the full force of peer pressure and boring 7 o'clock sleeps crushes the joy. The damaging consequences are all around.

How encouraging to think that a couple of contributors here think that a five year-old wandering the streets for "24 hours" is something to celebrate.
I'm all for very young children being given the opportunity to enjoy their childhoods through mostly play and adventure, however, being left to their own devices for extended lengths of time without overarching care, support, shelter, sustenance or supervision is something that is usually fatal for young humans. Despite being a lefty, and according to OTB really son't give a rats that a little 5 year old girl was found safe and well after being missing for almost 24 hours, I just say that was a great result and all who took part deserve a pat on the back.
Yuyutsu, are you for real? News on the 'Four Corners' program last night, also concerning children. Malcolm Turnbull has moved quickly to announce a Royal Commission into juvenile detention in the Northern Territory. The Country Liberal Party in the NT will have a lot of questions to answer. There are supplies of food at various locations along the street and numerous water-taps for adequate nutrition and hydration. The observant juvenile human can readily observe mature female inhabitants of the local species and understand the protective function of verandahs , hedges and school pc facilities.

There are two distinct types of persons that live in AU. There are the left which are caring people and there are the right inconsiderate persons with radical views.

I hope you don't have children. This is a child, not a stray dog. I rescued a naked toddler a few weeks ago - he was about twenty metres from a busy road when I intercepted him. I rang the police and waited for them - his dad found he had escaped out of a window, couldn't find him, rang the police and came and collected him. This child was 2 1/2...perhaps, by your calculations, I should have let him wander about a bit and enjoy his "freedom" - left a few bickies outside and a bowl of water.... Yours and Yuyutsu's comments are the most deranged I've ever encountered on OLO - and I've read some doozies. Posted by Poirot, Tuesday, 26 July 2016 7:53:41 AM

Do you have no concern for the horrendous impact on a 5 year old of hundreds of serious adults swarming in a mob frenzy psychology ideology of hunt and locate with mass TV , community and OLO implosion? Birds are trapped with fine nets but did they think of that here? No. I've met a victim of mass searching as a child in the carefree delight of a picnic wandering. His mind is a mess.

So tell me, in the case of the tot that I intercepted...let's paint a scenario where I didn't see him. Could have happened that way. I was seeing a friend off in the driveway. I didn't see the child. My friend came back and knocked at the door. My friend is elderly and couldn't have run to save the child who was nearing the busy street. I bolted and caught the child. (Actually was quite surprised I coud still run that fast!) So if the child hadn't been seen, he probably would have been hit by a car. If he'd gone in the opposite direction he would have walked into a densely forested area which then leads to the beach. People would have searching - hundreds of them to find this little guy. And you appear to be telling me that that would be overly traumatic for the child the "horrendous impact...of hundreds of serious adults swarming in a mob". As I said..."deranged". Jocelyn was a very lucky girl that two guardian angels (what else might one call the two mothers?) persisted and used a combination of their familiarity and empathy with children and their intuition and lateral thinking to 'wild card' areas to (re-)check.
It was a cold night again last night, with a heavy dew. The area where young Jocelyn was lost is very difficult to search and there are numerous natural hazards from deep flowing water with bull sharks to coastal taipans and browns. You would have to be shoulder to shoulder, dragging your boots through the overgrown tall grasses, vines and brush. Even then she could have been missed or doubled back. Infants are tiny when they scrunch themselves up and fall unconscious. Talking about snakes, there are large pythons in that heavy low brush that are regularly photographed consuming wallabys. Then there is the two legged risk. Hats off to the two mothers who let their experience and intuition set likely places, wild cards, to check. I don't imagine that many here apart from Poirot so far who realise just how close that was to another tragic, unresolved missing child. A tough kid though to have been still on her feet. Although she would have crashed not so long after if not rescued. Posted by onthebeach, Tuesday, 26 July 2016 8:51:17 AM

And people left blankets and mattresses and food out on their front lawns, in case that little girl wandered into their yard.
I'll bet many complete strangers were in tears when she was eventually found It's called 'community', Yuyutsu. Joe Posted by Loudmouth, Tuesday, 26 July 2016 12:11:21 PM

Dear Poirot,
«Five year-old humans require older humans to care for them» The soul who happens to currently wear that body called 'Jocelyn' is neither five year old nor a human. It could have been around for billions of years and treating this soul as if it was merely a biological body is shameful, disrespectful and anything but "caring". Denying Jocelyn her freedom under the pretext of caring for her (that is, for her body) is a patronising disservice. All the perpetrators really care for is to confirm their own social position so they look good by their peers of a similar value-system. Had Jocelyn wanted to be taken home, she would have stood up rather than try to escape, or she could have simply returned home on her own: I was two years old when I escaped from kindi, never to return there. There was an oppressive and cruel supervisor there and I knew exactly what I wanted: to be free! Knowing that I could not do much on my own, I first tried to organise the other children, so that each takes a toy or a similar object, then we would all simultaneously hit and kill her - but those stupid children failed to appreciate the plan and cooperate, so instead I found a way to escape and walked back home, 2 streets away. If I could at two, so could Jocelyn at five. Talking about snakes, Jocelyn's body may not have survived, but then Jocelyn could have died in freedom and in nature, happily as she wanted rather than having to grow and struggle through today's stressful consumerist and digital jungle. The elderly too are locked away in nursing homes, often against their will and as we just read in the news today, some are even tortured there. This twisted Western society only values body-counts and has no respect for individuals - young and old, allowing neither to live and die in dignity. It irrationally considers physical-death an enemy while it applauds spiritual death and vanity. Posted by Yuyutsu, Tuesday, 26 July 2016 12:56:19 PM

Maybe it is loon paradise after all. I took Yuyutsu as being satirical but is dead serious it seems. So my satire would then seem equally serious to Poirot. Now Is Mise says I'm telling my experience, even after I said it's a joke. And otb gave the topic to show that Australia has at least 1 good thing about it.
I'm going outside to bang my head on the ground and I may not return. erm, that's a joke don't ring 000. Posted by nicknamenick, Tuesday, 26 July 2016 1:14:06 PM

nicknamenick,
Oh I see. Yup...I'm very familiar with Yuyutsu's "interesting" way of looking at things. Eg,.... "The soul who happens to currently wear that body called 'Jocelyn' is neither five year old nor a human...." "Denying Jocelyn her freedom under the pretext of caring for her (that is, for her body) is a patronising disservice..." Boom! Posted by Poirot, Tuesday, 26 July 2016 2:28:03 PM

Yuyutsu's nuttiest paragraph rang a bell for me: "Talking about snakes, Jocelyn's body may not have survived, but then Jocelyn could have died in freedom and in nature, happily as she wanted rather than having to grow and struggle through today's stressful consumerist and digital jungle."
There was a doco a few years ago about a clutch of kooks in West Virginia who dance with snakes. One of them suddenly cried out "Ah been beart. Jesus be praised, ahm beart" As the venom took effect he switched to "Jesus Lord, ahm comin'". And he died right there in front of the camera. After a brief pause the others lifted the lid on another box of rattlesnakes, the hillbilly music restarted and the dance resumed. Yuyutsu may be right, death may be wonderful thing if your brain's unhinged. Not to be wished on a normal little girl though. Posted by EmperorJulian, Monday, 1 August 2016 5:25:50 PM

So it is good to occasionally put up one of the thousands of good stories that either never get told or are shunted off the front page.
Here is the story with timeline and photos covering the search and rescue of a 5yr old girl who was missing for 24 hours in SE Qld. It is a triumph of fast and effective action by police especially and of emergency services, strongly supported by a willing public who complied to the letter with police instructions.
Well worth reading the full story and flipping through the photos to see Australians and their police and emergency services in action. A couple of minutes reading that dispels the fog of the rotten, wrong things that the serially disaffected, the cynical protest party politicians and lobbyists with an eye on getting access to taxpayers' $$ say about Australia and Australians.

Possibly the link may not always be effective. However in that case, hopefully the news services or current affairs do the right thing in this case.
