The Daily Telegraph: Australian of the Year has become a vehicle for feminist agenda

"Victory for feminism and defeat for sense.
Men who put their lives on the line in service of their country were crucified by the Army to satisfy a feminist agenda that now dominates the Australian of the Year award, Miranda Devine writes"

Any wonder there are so many resignations of good soldiers from the ADF.

Because of keyboard crusaders copy+pasting taglines from the websites of major daily newspapers?

A fascinating hypothesis, Mr. Beach, but it does seem a bit far-fetched.

Onthebeach "Any wonder there are so many resignations of good soldiers from the ADF."
Really? They resigned because of feminists?
Do you have the proof for this statement, or did you just make it up?

As soon as I read the title of this thread I knew it would be you who wrote it.
Anti-feminist extraordinaire.

Were they all feminists on the panel for deciding who would be Australian of The Year then?
And these feminists decided to choose a male recipient? Lol!

I like this guy because he doesn't just follow supposedly tough manly men guidelines that some current-day Neanderthal men continue to follow.

The Daily Telegraph article by Miranda Devine,

<A curious aspect of the Australian of the Year award is that three of the eight finalists were involved in one of the greatest miscarriages of justice in Australian military history.

Former chief of Army David Morrison, his then speech writer, transgender officer Cate McGregor, and then Sex Discrimination Commissioner Elizabeth Broderick were central to the so-called Jedi Council sex scandal of 2013 that set the stage for Morrison’s feminist deification.

Described in the media as a “sex ring”, the Jedi Council was a closed email group of 17 male ADF personnel who received messages from former Army signaller Hastings Fredrickson, who used the Star Wars moniker on his laptop.

Between 2010 and 2013 Fredrickson, who worked for defence contractor Thales, sent explicit emails to the group detailing his sexual exploits, real or imagined. The “travel diaries” of “the Wolf of Woolloomooloo” were self-aggrandising amateur pornography, 50 Shades Of Grey for men. Women were “molls”, “sluts” and “whores”, and he was fixated on anal and “spit roast” sex.

Fredrickson, now 41, comes across as a repulsive predator, but his encounters were consensual. His most serious offence was to film himself having sex with an unsuspecting woman and sending screenshots to the group.

After Thales discovered the emails, he was sacked and the ADF was informed. Thales also contacted the Melbourne woman he had filmed.

Fredrickson has since been convicted of using a carriage service to cause offence and received a 15-month suspended jail sentence. Justice done and that is where the matter should have ended.

But this was the “misogyny” era of the Gillard government and it came in the wake of the 2011 ADFA scandal in which a cadet filmed himself having consensual sex with another cadet and broadcast it via Skype without her knowledge.

<Defence Minister Stephen Smith ordered seven reviews and appointed Broderick to change the ADF’s attitude to women. Morrison implemented her recommendations and became her slavish admirer.

One former general says Smith “exploited the Skype scandal for his own ... popularity within the (Labor) party. He wanted to show he could bring the military to heel”.

Thus, Smith opened the door to the worst social engineering experiment in Defence history. Morrison responded to the minor infractions of the Jedi Council with disproportionate ferocity, describing the case to senior brass as “worse than Skype”.

The speech McGregor wrote for Morrison in June 2013 was in direct response to the allegations. “There is no place for you among this band of brothers and sisters,” he thundered.

The speech went viral and is the main reason cited for Morrison’s Australian of the Year award. He was feted by the feminist establishment and shared a stage with actress Angelina Jolie at the UN as a result.>

<While soldiers were dying in Afghanistan, the Army was obsessed by gender. The unwitting members of the Jedi Council were sacrificial lambs.

In the end eight soldiers were sacked, among them young career officers of impeccable standing, who had done serial tours of duty in Afghanistan. SAS commandos who suffered PTSD were crucified for doing nothing more than reply approvingly to a rankly sexist email.

Most emails went unanswered. Many were never opened. Yet officers were punished for having them on their email system.

Yes, the language they used is offensive. But it’s just talk, black humour and a few dirty pictures sent in private emails to friends.

Only Fredrickson had committed a serious offence in filming a woman without consent and sharing images.

“The battle for us blokes is we admit we did wrong by slapping this guy on the back and making a joke of his actions,” says sacked Army major “John”. “But (our problem was) Morrison saw it as a platform to launch his agenda.”

John regrets the replies he sent Fredrickson. “Yeah f--ken oath I’d root her. Good work,” was one..

Sexist, yes. A sacking offence, absolutely not...

Yet the way the Army and the media behaved, you would think the soldiers were guilty of serious sexual offences. As one senior officer peripherally involved with the case says: “I assumed they had sexually assaulted women.”

Among the eight who were sacked were veterans of tours of duty in Afghanistan. Some were suffering PTSD yet were ruthlessly discarded.

One Special Forces soldier was about to receive a Commendation for Distinguished Service for actions in warlike conditions in Afghanistan.

His relatives had flown to Canberra from interstate the day before the ceremony when he was told the award had been withdrawn.

These are men who put their lives on the line in service of their country and they have suffered the ultimate betrayal, crucified by the Army to satisfy a feminist agenda.

And now Australian of the Year has become a vehicle for this agenda.>

Suse, I too knew straight away it would be a Beach special. To back it up, he's gone straight to the source of truth, justice and the American way, 'The Daily Telecrap' and its leading purveyor of the thoughts of Chairman Rupert, Miranda Devine . Next thing you know, he'll take to quoting Pier Akerman, another favorite of the rabid right.

Here's a different version obtained from the web:
Read it and make up your own minds:

"Few would expect a tough-as-nails Chief-0f-Army to
be recognised internationally for his commitment
to gender equality, diversity, and inclusion. But
when former Lieutenant General David Morrison ordered
misbehaving troops to "Get Out!" if they couldn't
accept women as equals, his video went viral and he
started a cultural shift that has changed Australia's
Army Forces forever.

Since then, the number of women joining the Army has grown
by two per cent and the culture is more accepting of
racial, ethnic and sexual diversity.

In 2014, David was invited to speak at the "Global Summit
To End Sexual Violence in Conflict," sharing the stage
with US Secretary of State John Kerry and activist
Angelina Jollie and arguing that militaries that exclude
women - "Do nothing to distinguish the soldier from the
brute."

David retired in 2015 after 36 years in the Australian
Army, and 4 years as its Chief, but he continues his
commitment as a champion of human rights in his new role
as the Chair of Diversity Council of Australia.

The Selection panels give consideration to the following
in assessing the nominations for Australian of the Year
under the following criteria:

1) Demonstrated excellence in their field.

2) Significant contribution to the Australian Community
and Nation.

3) An inspirational role model for the Australian
Community.

4) The Local Hero Award acknowledges a significant
contribution at local community level.

OTB,

It's your posts own that are all about not letting
others have a go. You deal in
generalisations, personal attacks,
and are against freedom of speech
with any views that provide facts and disagree
with yours. The same goes for Ms Devine.
(Not so divine). She, does not let facts
get in the way of a story.

Typically Parochial attitudes.
Suse is right, - Nothing more needs to be said.

Like the others, anything but discuss the manifestly unfair treatment of those eight soldiers and why, the politics, eh?

so tragic that individuals use men who have put their lives on the line for the country in order to promote themselves. Still the rumour is that Julie Bishop is supporting our biggest ecomimic failure since Gough to tak up a UN position. Self interest seems to be very high on the selection criteria for the left.

It is not only the men who put their lives
at risk in the Army. It is the women as well.
Here is a link that explains why David Morrison
took the stance that he did:

on the bitch: In a country that has two murders a week by husbands or partners, not enough money to provide suitable shelter and an attitude by some that woman are inferior in some way you question the ethics of a man who takes the side of "feminists".
Also these woman are taking part in all aspects of service life even if their lives are at risk as well as men.
They are cleared for combat and some are at the sharp end flying helicopters in harms way as well as fixed wing.
They serve on ships which if damaged or sunk will harm them just as much as men.
You clearly have a problem with woman and should keep it to yourself from now on instead of bleating your prejudice in public.
Just a little tip, do not use opinions from a weird woman who IS biased and works for a miserable old man who should be put in a home for the aged.
It shows how ill informed you are.

Careful Robert LePage, I think your petticoat is hanging down.

As in my other post on Morrison, this fool has lost the defence force more top quality people than anyone in history. He has cluttered it up with a host of silly little girls, most of whom are not capable of doing many of the required jobs, let alone replace the experienced people they are loosing.

It has got so bad that the crew of our later ships are banned from touching any of the machinery, & many of the systems. Crews are so lacking in training & ability that the ships have to be returned to port for shore based contractors to patch up.

God help us if we ever have to actually fight the things.

What possible relevance does that have where it is eight men who have been sacked?

Robert lePage, "In a country that has two murders a week by husbands or partners"

When you must start with a shonky number and shabby fabrication that has been corrected so many times, no-one would bother to read any further. Miranda Devine and others have thoroughly dispelled that shonky number and the rest of the shonky, self-serving faux 'research' and 'statistics' that is never, ever subjected to proper peer review.

$100m buying the materialistic, self-serving, educated middle class leftist elite who are feminism in Oz was a cheap move by Turnbull.

John Howard spent $2billion on his 'gun control' prior to an election, but that was necessary to ward off the prospect of a Royal Commission into Port Arthur. A RC would have proved very uncomfortable for both of the major parties. The major parties had for differing ideological 'imperatives' sold off mental health and rehab facilities and forced mental patients back into the care of their families. Bryant was well know to authorities and police. Nowhere to put him though. Also, there was the difficulty that the firearm used by Bryant had been surrendered to police in a previous gun amnesty.

Still, with an election soon to come Turnbull may cynically use the politics of gun control too, to occupy the talking heads on the ABC and elsewhere.

Then there is the eye candy of 'The Republic' to keep the superficial 'progressive' motormouths busy.

I wonder how long it will take for Labor members to realise that the ground is being swept away from beneath their feet and an election is imminent?

Where oh where is the Unions' Boy, L'il Willie Shorten? It will be slowly sinking in to Labor politicians that their use-by date is fast approaching.

Definitely no appetite among the usual crew of leftist 'Progressives' to confront the facts and criticisms contained in the The Daily Telegraph article and its inevitable finding that the Australian of the Year has become a vehicle for feminist agenda.

No consideration either for the unlucky eight soldiers who have been publicly shamed (and leftists must do to the unfortunate victims) and whose futures were abruptly cut short (sacking is also necessary where leftists are concerned and is always called for).

Yet the very same leftists have in the recent past defended union CEOs and politicians who breached the trust invested in them and indulged in corruption and of course no demands for the CFMEU and other union heavies unmasked by their own admissions to a Royal Commission to be made responsible and accountable for their crimes and abuses of trust.

The general who is the replacement centrepiece for Rosie and front is becoming even more controversial as more inconvenient facts spill out,

Dear Poirot,

Welcome back.

So good to have you posting once again.

I've had a family friend, who's a
psychologist analyse OTB's posts.

His assessment is that the OTB has
some serious problems and that we all
should avoid aggravating his situation.
Unless we have anything positive in
our reply to him we should either avoid
upsetting him any further or simply
ignore his viciousness. He gets off
on our reactions.

It is unfortuante but I have encountered
similar individuals throughout my career.
Surprisingly, positive responses to these
individuals achieve much more in the long
term.

Robert Ovadia and Paula Doneman combined their networks of Defence and police contacts over two states to produce exhaustively researched investigative pieces, a rarity in nightly TV news. Their exposé drew out highly sensitive information from within two of Australia’s most secretive organisations, revealing a cover-up of the Australian Defence Force’s “Jedi Council” sex ring, under investigation for distributing details and images of themselves having sex with unwitting women.

Ovadia is Seven News Sydney’s Walkley Award-winning senior crime reporter. He joined the Seven Network in 2001 after a year with Associated Press in London. He won a Walkley Award in 2008 for breaking the “Iguana-gate” scandal concerning Belinda Neal and John Della Bosca’s unhappy night out at a Central Coast watering hole. Doneman has been a journalist for 21 years, specialising in crime and investigations. She joined Seven News in 2011. She was a Walkley finalist as part of The Courier-Mail’s coverage of the Childers backpacker fire and is also a Queensland Media Award winner.

"Robert Ovadia and Paula Doneman’s reports into the so-called “Jedi Council” and subsequent cover-up once again shone the spotlight on the dark underbelly of the Australian Defence Force (ADF). A strong narrative was supported by excellent graphics and good old-fashioned investigative journalism, which all made for compelling viewing. I'm not going to comment on the main theme because to be honest, having checked the various articles, I'm none the wiser. Were the soldiers unfairly treated? Was this episode just the tip of the iceberg and the army/police knew a lot more had been going on? Indeed, was the guy who posted the video on the army internet to dozens of officers in fact a police/feminist plant who wanted to flush this all out in the open. (Otherwise surely he couldn't have been stupid enough...).

Whatever, it's pretty clear that we (and the media) do not know the full story, so getting irate over the supposed truth is a waste of energy.

However I do have one issue... see next message.

So, Hasbeen, the army is full of 'silly little girls, most of whom are not capable of doing many of the required jobs'.

I was once 'a silly little girl', or at least regarded as such. In the late 60s, I did postgrad work in a field-oriented uni department. The equipment manager was dead against us few girls taking the 4WDs out: all the usual stereotypes. He wanted us to do advanced driving courses, and even then he didn't really trust us. (I think everyone should do such a course, but he was selective, only the girls needed it). We were saved by one of the male students, a totally incompetent, accident-prone driver. He hit his front gate post in his own car; trees, fenceposts, other vehicles whenever he was allowed out in a 4WD. So whenever the manager slagged off about women drivers, we would smile sweetly and say 'And what has Tony hit this week?' (Not his real name, to protect the guilty).

Fast forward 30 years. I was working on an environment rehabilitation project, with a crew from a big heavy equipment company who worked on mining sites. We had dredgers, excavators, biiig dump trucks and bulldozers. The bulldozer driver was a young woman, and the crew boss was explicit, he couldn't get enough woman drivers - they were much more competent than men. One day, as a perk, I got to burn around in a huge tiptruck, the tyres taller than me, off-road of course, since I didn't have the right licence. As anyone familiar with modern rigs will know, driving these requires skill, finesse, attention to detail and the ability to multi-task, not brute strength. Even the strongest men can't change the wheels on these vehicles without machines.

So I'm quite happy to think of women working machines in the defence forces.

As for the need for specialist servicing of machinery, well, isn't that the case generally? Once was even a silly little girl could hot-wire a Holden, clean a blocked fuel line, etc. Now only the specialist with the computer can service a modern car.

Up to speak came a certain "pop star" Labor Minister, who after delivering some verbal diarrhea about the issues, got a spray from me, I told him to get his hand off his dictaphone and march down the corridor in Parliament House and speak to his Labor mate (the Boss). Well did that set him off, and him and I had a verbal set to for the next couple of minutes, He walked off in a huff, when one of his minders though it would be a good time to exit, stage right! He made Beach look like a rank amateur in the insult department.

On this topic. I was somewhat taken aback (in a good way) by the statements of Lieutenant General David Morrison. he intends to carry on the good work of Rosie Batty, 2015 Australian of the Year in the areas of domestic violence, along with a focus on diversity and the gender pay gap plus supporting the republican movement.
Its good to see that now days people who are given these types of honours, can and do, speak out on social issues, rather tan being contented with attending flower shows and opening school fates.

Dear Paul,

Thanks for your kind words.

And I also admire the strong stance of
our Australian of The Year - and trust
that he shall continue to work hard for fairness
amd equity for all.

I am dubious as to what that Newscorp hack
Ms Devine writes. Judging from the "truth" of her
past research.

Again Thank you for your posts.

I enjoy reading them.

The general is a politician, occupying the position of best strategic advantage.

Turnbull is doing the same at a minimal cost. It is only taxpayers' money, not his. To a politician interested in winning an election, a cool $100 million to those educated middle class feminists who swing from the guvvy teat buys a lot, first priority being front row as a a declared champion moral BS artist. Which wrong foots and derails that Bobble-Head, L'il Willie Shorten and the Handbag Hit Squad he inherited from 'Whatever She Says', Ms Galah'd (the one with that beaut $2million 'bungalow' on the coast where the tides are supposed to be rising (from 'poisonous' Carbon dioxide Juliar always maintained).

Anyhow, Peter Costello is a favourite to cherry-pick when it suits some leftists here, so doubtless they will agree with him again (Not! LOL),

<Why Apologise for being White and Male?

Speeches against racism and sexism are a dime a dozen. What got McGregor’s noted was the Chief of Army delivered it.

And whether they were McGregor’s words or not, it was a serving general who got up and apologised for taking the benefits of “masculinity and patriarchy”.

This kind of language is music to the ears of modern social activists because it implies there are not only victims of racism and sexism but beneficiaries as well. Whether they have done anything wrong or not, they believe these beneficiaries should apologise.

There is, of course, another view that says that none of us is responsible for our race or sex and that being white and male gives someone no more reason to apologise than being black and female. This is the view that people should be judged for what they do rather than what they are. It’s a belief about individual responsibility for individual behaviour. It’s still the basis of our criminal law, if not the favoured view of the “human rights” movement at the moment.

It’s not the kind of view that will get you to be the Australian of the Year.>

The big issue facing David Morrison is his part in any cover up of abuse in the ADF. Independent senator Jacqui Lambie used parliamentary privilege to launch an attack over the treatment of SAS trooper Evan Donaldson and former army officer Marcus Saltmarsh.

Paul1405, "The big issue facing David Morrison is his part in any cover up of abuse in the ADF"

Agreed that is one of the big issues. The treatment of the eight men is another for instance.

For comparison, if Anglican Archbishop Hollingworth is to be held accountable for what happened under his watch and he is, what about the General? The army is far more hierarchical than the Anglican church.

Beach, just as Hollingworth, Pell and the other poor excuses in the church hierarchy need to be exposed for their part in cover ups of pedophilia in their organisations, and it has been well documented, any cover up in the ADF by any senior officers needs also to be publicly exposed.

Exactly, these men need to take responsibility for their stupid, giggly, schoolboy
Behaviour. How stupid are they, it was obvious the country and politicians
We're losing patience with the constant reports of sexual harassment and rapes
Being reported in the military. Men are often raped too in these male institutions,
Like old boys schools, the church, and military academies.
It seems the male of the species just cannot stop themselves from
Committing these acts of bastardry.

They think it's all some kind of big joke, smirk, smirk.
Grow up for Gods sake.

Having said that, I never thought women in the men's army was
A sensible idea. Or that it would be free of this sort of trouble given
The Sexual weakness of men. Or the weak mental ability of men in general.

I think one good woman is worth 10men.
But I do think men have a natural ability as warriors.
Their One track minds and focus are excellent for the concentration
Needed in war situations. That is their natural evolutionary nature.
Plus their stronger body for combat up close.
Forrest Gump is an excellent example of how the one track focus fits
In very well with the skills needed in the army.

Men however, are a disruptive force in a civilised society.
It is overwhelmingly men who commit the biggest percentage
Of the worst crimes.

That's why the most miserable worn torn countries in the world
Are the ones that are totally male dominated. They are also the countries
Millions of people are trying to leave. The countries everyone
Is trying to escape to are the ones that have been made more civilised
by the ability of women to bring about change for the better.
