JF Aus,

"What has Bashar al-Assad been convicted of?"
There's no procedure to bring him to justice, therefore he hasn't been convicted of anything.

"What do you know for sure that he did wrong?"
There's overwhelming evidence that he ordered false flag terrorist actions against his own people.

"Do you think Assad would gas his own people after he saw what happened to Saddam Hussein for allegedly gassing his people?
Assad is not an idiot."
He would and he did. Saddam did gas his own people (that's not merely an accusation; it's a well documented fact. It happened in the 1980s, and did not trigger a war).

What Assad learned from Iraq was that he needed Russia on his side. And that worked: he used chemical weapons against civilians in areas controlled by his opponents, and Russian support prevented America from responding.

Is Mise,
You apparently think let Syrian people continue dying.
Make this a go nowhere thread and just let the carnage continue, eh.

Typical "weapons of mass destruction" type of disgusting unproven accusation is yet again interfering in another countries politics while civilians die.

Why don't you answer the questions, Is Mise?
You apparently do not believe in "innocent until proven guilty".

Aidan,
I can agree Hussein was convicted and put to death as penalty.
How can you possibly think Assad would be stupid enough to gas his people, while knowing full well of that fatal penalty?

I think Russia was already helping Assad before the alleged gassing took place. So why would Assad gas people to get help from Russia?

War and killing civilian men women and children surely must stop.
To say nothing about the long lasting impact of carnage witnessed by children.

America and Russia should be working together like they are in the international space station.

Because he's already committed more than enough abominable crimes that his people would execute him if they could ever manage to bring him to justice. His only hope is to ensure they never do.

"I think Russia was already helping Assad before the alleged gassing took place. So why would Assad gas people to get help from Russia?"
He didn't; the idea is so ridiculous that it didn't occur to me that my words could give that imoression, My point is he wouldn't've gassed those people if he didn't have Russian support.

"War and killing civilian men women and children surely must stop.

The trouble is the killing started before the war, and there doesn't seem to be a way of ending the war that would be effective in ending the killing.

"America and Russia should be working together like they are in the international space station."
In the international space station they have a common objective. It's far more difficult to get countries to cooperate when they have different objectives — especially in Syria when some of their objectives are mutually exclusive.

I maintain Assad is not so stupid to gas anyone following what he saw was done to Saddam Hussein.

And I think if western allies joined with Russia is helping Assad to regain control and peace, the killing and exodus of people into other over-burdened countries would stop.

Otherwise, Aidan, I think you best try to show some evidence of the "abominable crimes" you say Assad has committed.

And remember the accusation of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq was a total lie.

I have thought for years, since Putin has been in power,
That we should make Russia a Western Allie,

I think it could work very well.

I also think Putin is reading that situation in Syria much more accurately
Than the Western powers. He knows the history of the Ottoman
Empire and the tribal allegiances formed since then.

Putin should take command of that war, and the stupid United Nations
Need to butt out. It would end much more favourably for Europe
And it would be over much more quickly.

CHERFUL,
I think the same.
Most importantly, less lives would be lost by ending it much more quickly.
The way it is being allowed to continue at present is cruel.
