All-cause mortality and exercise

As part of a project this year in my advanced exercise physiology I learned some insights that I would like to share. My project covered all-cause mortality and what impact exercise had on it. So basically my group and I looked at how exercise impacted you risk of dying. We found some interesting things. We found that it is best to do aerobic type exercise at a moderate to vigorous rate (jogging or running) 3 times a week for a total of 30min continuous for each of those days. We found that any jogging at any more than 3 days a week will increase ones chance of death. I for one found this interesting. Exercise is the best medicine and helps with so much in our lives. Our bodies are one of the greatest gifts we have been given and it is our own responsibility to take care of our bodies. So just do it and don’t look back!

"increase ones chance of death"? ? ?

If you are referring to the chance of your body dying, then it is 100% exactly - and if you are referring to YOU dying, then the chance is 0% exactly - so how could anything change that?

There are of course other reasons to exercise: physical exercise purifies the blood, strengthens one's muscles and heart and throws out many toxins, so those who exercise have an increased ability to achieve what they want in life. Thus physical exercise is good for good people and bad for the evil ones.

JohnE,

It is quite possible that those in sedentary lifestyles are ill-advised to jog anyhow.

The rule is to first get fit before putting that load on the body.

So, eat more veggies, forget most things that come in a carton and keep up the protein, but not so much from red meat. Walk some and over time work up to jogging.

I remember getting the phone call to cancel a meeting I had with the partner of a large consulting firm. A lunchtime jogger, mid-thirties, he had been found dead, 'jogless', beside a path. I will leave it to you to imagine the high stress, sedentary life he led. It used to be hip to have a ferocious game of squash to 'blow away the cobwebs' and impress the CEO. An even higher risk I would think.
