Dear Graham,

You certainly need to do whatever you see fit to have the site up and running but I for one would be sad to see the older comments go.

I have found it fascinating to see how comments have changed with time and circumstance. As various governments have weakened and waned the changes in tone have been telling. I think you have created a historical record that is valuable and may well be explored by the history students of the future.

On personal note if they are to go perhaps a heads up would be good as it would give some of the long termers time to download choice exchanges of which there are a few.

With a little more of a technical eye I develop websites for smaller organisations some of which have some pretty hefty database loads. One country newspaper's database is into Gigs of data and as well is very image heavy. As OLO is mainly text I'm not sure you would have anything like that size. Perhaps some db tweaking may all that is needed, it could be something simple like a PHP version update being required.

Anyway good luck with getting it resolved.

Hi all, the database is back up and everything seems to be working well. Thanks for your patience. We might not need to prune the database afterall.

Regards,

Graham

problem fixed..simples?

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!
"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship."

The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the
beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200
years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage." -- Alexander Tyler

Congratulations Graham, & well done.

It is great to have you back. It felt a bit like an old friend had gone missing.
