It is also taking quite a while to get connected, & about 5 times as long as usual to change threads.

The problem appears to be the huge size of our database. We may have to take some comments from the distant past down.

It's a good thing I'm not paranoid, given the number of articles simply errored out, one could have easily been forgiven for thinking, the censor was at work.
Thankfully I did manage to post something, so I knew it wasn't all about me, just the rest of you. You've obviously have been too busy, and overloaded the system? Seeing how it is difficult to post anything, due to problems with the forum, how about a joke or two? The best definition of marriage? Well, cut out the middle man, find someone you hate and buy them a house! Boom boom. Rhrosty. Posted by Rhrosty, Friday, 30 May 2014 8:52:13 AM

Yes Graham, and thanks for the update!
Stuff older than a month should go! Maybe? And I guess it could be downloaded on to a disc or two? And then sold as research material, to those who need some material or ideas for this or that research project? I hope you get the system up soon, I'm already beginning to suffer withdrawal symptoms! Cheers, Rhrosty. Posted by Rhrosty, Friday, 30 May 2014 9:01:47 AM

Well the logical follow up to your joke Rhrosty would be the definition of pregnancy.
Something taken seriously, that was only poked in fun. Posted by Hasbeen, Friday, 30 May 2014 9:25:37 AM

FROSTRY/IT COMMENT..ON THE OTHER ARTICLES IS NEEDED
BEGIN A NEW TOPIC..IN THE LOWER SECTION..OF GENERAL I NOTE/there are many that visit articles..AND COMMENT ONLY..ON ARTICLES..IT SEEMS AS IF they dont/know.. that dont know general exists they may be posting replies the getting the error messages..[as we speak/a mention needs be made at articles/section..advising them were the new comments sections go to/here im presuming article/comment button..redirects to general.. topic..not reply button link..at the general topic..redirection. aS NO COMMENTS ARE APpEARING.. thus/CLEARLY THE REPLY LINK.[AT ARTICLE]..NEEDS REDIRECTING INTO THE GENERAL reply topic..[REDIRECTION articles\reply\/TOPIC..to article reply..not the general reply box..[see general] plus there mught be other denial of service issues[like i was refused to get online[denial of service]..for 20 minutes just before these replies. Dear Graham,
You certainly need to do whatever you see fit to have the site up and running but I for one would be sad to see the older comments go. I have found it fascinating to see how comments have changed with time and circumstance. As various governments have weakened and waned the changes in tone have been telling. I think you have created a historical record that is valuable and may well be explored by the history students of the future. On personal note if they are to go perhaps a heads up would be good as it would give some of the long termers time to download choice exchanges of which there are a few. With a little more of a technical eye I develop websites for smaller organisations some of which have some pretty hefty database loads. One country newspaper's database is into Gigs of data and as well is very image heavy. As OLO is mainly text I'm not sure you would have anything like that size. Perhaps some db tweaking may all that is needed, it could be something simple like a PHP version update being required. Anyway good luck with getting it resolved. Hi all, the database is back up and everything seems to be working well. Thanks for your patience. We might not need to prune the database afterall.

problem fixed..simples?
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY! "A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship." The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to complacency; From complacency to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage." -- Alexander Tyler Posted by one under god, Saturday, 31 May 2014 1:45:28 PM

Congratulations Graham, & well done.
It is great to have you back. It felt a bit like an old friend had gone missing. Posted by Hasbeen, Saturday, 31 May 2014 3:26:45 PM

Thanks to One Under God for bringing this to my attention. I've texted our technical support, but with one week to go until the end of the uni semester, he may be a little slow looking at the problem.
Please be patient, and thanks for your continuing support.
