I thought the budget was only a wish list

I note some rather drastic changes announced in last nights budget, along with some nessesarry ones as well, but, am I right in saying that all of these proposed changes have to pass the senate before they can be implemented.

If so, are they no more than a wish list.

It is indeed a wish list - the list as published by the IPA before the election, but only the first installment.

http://www.ipa.org.au/publications/2080/be-like-gough-75-radical-ideas-to-transform-australia

http://ipa.org.au/publications/2110/25-more-ideas-for-tony-abbott

It's an ideological statement dressed up as an economic solution to a contrived problem.

If Labor, the Greens and Palmer stick together they can force Abbott to keep his promise to have a double dissolution election this year.
It is the least they can do since he has broken pretty much every promise he ever made.
Force him to keep at least one promise and give the people of Australia the chance to decide if this really is a responsible budget and if the "adults" are in charge.

Given abbotts constant "election now" mantra in the last parliament how can the opposition parties possibly not take the actual opportunity to force him to keep his word?

Cowards to a man if they dont.

Oh my gawd, you didn't know that basic fact? Amazing. I blame your school teachers.... education 60 years ago was in a terrible state.

Yes, and 100% out of pure personal choice. If you don't wish to contribute to the smokers tax, then quit.

Now as for the proposed fuel tax, or increase of same, what, are you suggesting the tax stays at 38 cents indefinitely?

Why is it not indexed? Perhaps the blame lay on Howard/Costello as once the debt was repaid, the indexation should have been reinstated, otherwise the tax get swallowed up with inflation. Same goes for the pension.

It was interesting to note that Bill Shorten is up in arm about the pension being indexed to inflation, rather than wage growth as has been the case.

So why not index them to inflation, because after all, is that not what increases the cost of living.
