BUDGET broken promises ...Here's why Tony Abbott is the biggest liar PM we've ever had

  1. Pages:
  2. 1
  3. 2
  4. 3
  5. 4
  6. 5
  7. All
Before the election Tony Abbott campaigned on "honesty" and "integrity".

Here's what Tony Abbott told the Australian voters when in opposition:

"The only party that will raise taxes after the election is the Labor party"

"There should be no new tax collection without an election".

"What you'll get under us are tax cuts without new taxes".

"We stand for lower, simpler, fairer taxes".

"People who work hard should not be hit with higher taxes"

In this budget Tony Abbott has:

(1)Imposed a deficit *TAX*

(2)Imposed a Medicare $7 *TAX*

(3)Imposed a fuel excise *TAX INCREASE*, with these tax increases to be applied twice a year

Here's what Tax'Em Tony said on age pensions, "To keep our commitments there will be no changes to pensions during our term of parliament, but there should be changes to indexation arrangements "after" 3 years of government". In other words he promised to take indexation changes to an election.

Here's what ToneLIAR has just done in the budget regarding age pensions:

(1) He's TOTALLY SCRAPPED the age pension supplement (poor pensioners on the full pension will lose over $850 per year).

(2) ToneLIAR also changed the indexation of age pensions to reflect inflation, which means the same poor age pensioners will get even less per payment, in addition to their $850 loss.

ToneLIAR Abbott, has now lost *ALL* credibility regarding his ability to tell the truth. He is a dishonest and lying Prime Minister. He makes Julia Gillard look almost honest in comparison.

No Prime Minister has told so many repeated LIES before being elected.

ToneLIAR ... you are a disgrace, a liar and you should resign.

Ooow Nhoj… something tells me you don’t like our wonderful Prime Minister.

Bbbbut he’s such a good bloke.

All he’s doing is trying to get the budget back on track….you know; the one which Labor so totally sent awry!

And that just simply can’t happen without people across our society taking a hit.

Unfortunately, that hit is never going to happen in an even manner.

Of course he has to look after his big bizzo buddies while he’s doing this.

And he wouldn’t dare even mention immigration or the HUGE burden that it places on the budget by way of the constantly and rapidly increasing demand for new infrastructure and upgrades to existing infrastructure.

His big bizz buddies wouldn’t let him do that!

So…. we get the little man paying a whole lot extra… or having their income reduced, or losing it altogether, while the big boys go merrily on their way…. and the enormous constant increase in the need for infrastructure and thus for government expenditure from the very budget that they are trying to bring under control, continues completely unchecked.

Wonderful

the treasurer by the budget says a lot money must be saved BUT it is okay to allocate $53.3 million funding over two years for the Royal Commission into Trade Union Governance and Corruption.

$53.3 Million dollars over 2 years well at least some of the lawyers and judges will be spared the pain.

They need to be accountable for corruption etc but $53.3 million over 2 years is a bit rich.

Tony Abbott IS a liar. No doubts about it now.

We told you all this was what the born to rule party would do if you voted them in. They do it every time. Fraser, coward and now this lot. WTF is wrong with you Australia?

This is class war. The cruel hits to the sick, the unemployed, the young, students, pensioners and parents are just obscene and vicious.
The hide of the fat, cigar smoking hokey telling us to suffer while these scum and their mates capture even more of Australias wealth is unforgivable and the guillotine would be too good for these rabid cashchuckers.

The GP tax and the extra costs for health WILL result in people dying. When this happens it will be abbott and hokeys fault. Will they be held accountable? Will they be dragged in front of a royal commision? Will they even care?

Palmer, Labor and the greens should block supply, bring on a double dissolution election and condemn rabbott and the fat controller to history.

Tax'Em Tony has just *LIED* again. I saw him in Question Times just a few minutes ago saying that there's been no changes to the pension. Is this man living in a parallel universe? Is he on LSD?

The aged pension supplement, which all eligible aged pensioners receive every fortnight in their payment .... HAS BEEN 100% TOTALLY SCRAPPED. A single pensioner on the full pension, permanently loses $867 a year as a result.

Pensions have also been changed because increases will now be indexed differently, thus ensuring SMALLER increases.

Pensions have also been changed because the pension age will be increased to 70 over time.

Before the election the liar Abbott solemnly *PROMISED* that aged pensions would not be altered.

He's now CHANGED the pension, and remarkably still stands up and claims the aged pension has not changed.

Abbott is the most LYING and DECEITFUL PM Australia has ever had. He has no shame. He's a liar, can't be trusted and should resign.

Take a chill pill Nhoj, you'll do yourself a damage.

It could have been worse; the debt levy (a mere 2%) could have been applied to those on salaries of $100K - as it rightly should have been.
I certainly wouldn't mind a net, after allowable costs, of a reasonable fraction of that lower figure.

What was the aged pension 'supplement' for anyway? Was it meant to last forever, or was it one of Rudd's GFC quantitative easing measures?
Or, social engineering or vote bartering?

Matching rates to indexation sounds quite logical. Probably should be the normal mechanism across the board.

I suppose you don't think there was any need to rein-in the budget, or to tackle infrastructure development or medical research, or a need to stimulate industrial development to provide the jobs for younger Australians, both now and into the future?

I'd like to have seen a bigger hit on the big end of town, but given that business and industry are the ones that create employment and prosperity for all Aussies (new and old), I guess I can live with it, and be satisfied to review progress along the way.

I'm not too keen on the hit on fuel and tobacco, but maybe, like with the carbon tax hit on electricity, we can find ways to do more with less.

We will survive.
But I pity those asylum seekers.
How about we give a thought to those far worse off than we are?

This thread is not about what coulda/woulda/shoulda been in the budget.

This thread is not about whether people agree or disagree about the budget content.

It's about the mendacious, lying PM we have. It's about deceit, lies and lack of trust.

If the PM had said *BEFORE* the election that he'd do all of these pension changes and new taxes .... I would have ZERO grounds to complain about him.

But Tax'Em ToneLIAR didn't do that. In fact, he *REPEATEDLY* promised to *NOT* do these things.

HE LIED TO AUSTRALIA.

He should resign in disgrace. He is the most untrustworthy PM Australia has ever had. Julia Gillard was a mere amateur liar compared to the repeated, lying and deceitful behaviour of Tax'Em ToneLIAR before the election .... just to get elected.

Nhoj, this may be your thread, but we are free to contribute whatever 'take' on this issue we may choose.

You've made up your mind, and expressed your opinion, but there's little point in repeating your displeasure ad infinitum.
We've got your 'take', but if we can't move on, flesh-out the issue, then it's dead in the water - apart from people agreeing or disagreeing with your specific point of view.
How boring and fruitless that would be - snooze, snooze.

Lies, or justified adjustments and alterations to policy position based on review of prevailing circumstances? That is the nub of the issue.

Ok, honesty in politics is important, but in this instance I think the relative virtue or otherwise of the revised policy, and budgetary direction, is the more important consideration.

Honesty is one thing, justified 'amendment' quite another.
Since when has politics or the economic situation been static and unmovable?

What's your real take on where our government and our economy should be going?
What's the 'Nhoj' Plan?

<< (2)Imposed a Medicare $7 *TAX* >>

Regardless of items (1) and (3), this is not a tax, but a payment for a service.

So far, the government, using my tax money, paid for your favourite kind of health-service in full. In doing so, they were encouraging you to live unhealthily, thinking that your doctor will fix everything without charge. From now on they will only pay most, but not all of your fees, while you would need to pay just a fraction of the cost out-of-pocket. This may perhaps slightly encourage you to lead a healthier lifestyle.

In comparison, they never paid for my health-services because I don't use the services of Western medical doctors. When I need any health-related service, I pay for it in full. I'm aware that I need to budget and save for my health-related services just like any other goods or services I want or need - yet still I'm forced to subsidise with my tax your type of unwholesome services.

Sometimes we complain about the greediness, corruption and inefficiencies of government, but in this particular case the government is not in charge, itself a hostage of the most powerful Mafia in Australia - the AMA guild.

As far as health legislation goes, the AMA dictates, in accordance with both their philosophy and greed, and the politicians nod and scribble what they say in the books like sheep. The laws even grants them privileges that are unrelated to healing - for example they have the exclusive right to decide who is alive and who is dead, who is able to work and who isn't, whether one is responsible or not for their actions, what caused one's death and in some cases whether one may or may not hold a driving license.

It's only the emergency deficit situation which allowed politicians to make a dent in the doctors' privileges, still a tiny and barely noticeable dent, a far cry from what is needed - to kick them down all the stairs and allow people to choose their health-treatments on a plane level field.

Obviously the instruction has come down to the Labor party faithful to call Abbott a liar early an often, the way they vote.

They are desperate to get off the hook of being the home of the Gillard whopper. After all she is the queen of liars, be it to the voters or pulling a con with her boyfriend to rip off the unionists.

The brain dead will repeat this garbage till the cows come home following the Goebbels principal.

You're maligning those who have enough integrity to make good the intolerable mess those whom you defend have left us to deal with.

Best just let them stew?

Abbott himself is doing a fine job of promoting his long history of lying and hypocrisy.

What gall.

What else could you expect from someone who walked out on his pregnant girlfriend a couple of weeks before the wedding, waited until his was nearly 24 to apply for citizenship only so he could qualify for a Rhodes Scholarship, quit the seminary because he wanted to make money and frequently committed fraud on his Travel Allowance claims?

As he was fond of saying "it all comes down to honesty".

Enjoy the ride - it's only going to get worse.

Amazing.

There are people who still believe that politicians are honest, and that they don't "create a narrative" that belies their true intentions at every opportunity.

Sorry, but it is part of the job description that they lie. If they told the truth, they wouldn't get elected.

The only way out of this is to turn the pre-election manifesto from being the tissue of golden-age promises that we are fed today, into a factual document that states - nay, commits to - an action plan that they are legally required to follow.

As Ross Gittins pointed out on Monday:

"The supposed sanctity of election promises is a recipe for bad government. No one who cares about good policy - as opposed to seeing their side get back to power - would think it smart to hold politicians to promises they should never have made, or which have been overtaken by events. Much better to do something damaging to the economy or unfair to particular classes of people than to break a promise? Hardly. The sensible answer isn't to insist on promises being kept come hell or high water, it's to insist politicians stop making promises they aren't certain they can keep."

http://www.rossgittins.com/2014/05/labor-sells-its-soul-to-fight-deficit.html

The only way to do that will be for politicians to only make promises they can keep.

And to make those promises, those commitments made to us in order to secure our vote, legally binding on them.

Pre the Election Tony Abbott made a lot of promises that he had no intention of keeping he also appeared to have no real policies ! Within months of coming to power he has broken every promise he made to the Australian electorate and has put forward policies that would have destroyed any chance of him gaining power in the last election ! His Government believes that the Australian taxpayer no longer has the right to expect any entitlements from government ? Yet they feel entitled to dip into your wallet and pay packet as much as they want ! They say the age of entitlement is over, if that is so why are we paying taxes to the government if we are to expect nothing from them ? The Budget was a reflection of what this Government is really about, share the pain ? taxpayers on $200,000 a year are being expected to hand over just $4oo a year for there part of the pain and Politicians are going to feel there suffering by a pay freeze for twelve months meanwhile there are thousands of people and families on middle to low incomes who are going to loose around the hundred dollar mark a week ! Who is really the ones suffering ? This was a pure Liberal formulated budget to the extreme, it clearly shows the difference between the major parties it favors the wealthy and big business well above the common working people ! Want to know the difference between liberal AND Labor JUST READ THIS ENTIRE BUDGET IT STANDS OUT LIKE A SORE THUMB ! Because of all the deceit this government fed the voting public before the election, I consider their win null and void and that a double dissolution of Parliament should take place as soon as possible !

I totally disapprove of the present federal ministers' salaries & can not describe the situation a s anything but criminally immoral. But, if we are incensed then we must also be serious about whom we blame for this. It wasn't the Coalition who put the salaries up by over $190.000,00 per year for the PM, it was the ALP government who did that although I can not recall any outcries from any of the other political parties & veto it.
So, those who rightfully denounce Abbott's pay should also have the integrity to name Rudd/Gillard in the same breath.
Broken promises ? what has thus far turned out to be a broken promise ? All these proposals are nothing more the plans for the future, not right now. So, hold your horses at this stage.
If you really want to waffle on about broken promises then ask the ALP ministry what happened to their promise of providing an open, transparent & responsible Government ?
Well ?

There is nothing you rightards can say that changes the fact that tony abbott IS A LIAR.
A much much bigger liar than gillard ever was.
One (supposed)lie up against the dozens broken by abbott.

All your (and rabbott and hokeys) weasel words and slimy justifications cant change the fact that he is a LIAR!
He went to the election knowing that "no new taxes, no increase to taxes, no cuts to health, education, the ABC" were all lies and he never had any intention of fulfilling his promises.

After three years of hearing him and all of you here call her juliar I am utterly enjoying this chance to rub your noses in the stinking filth of this cruel and heartless budget of lies. Constantly will I remind you of the hypocrisy and perfidy that is the LIEberal party of 2014. Just like you lot and abbott did I will scream LIAR until this disgraceful phony deceiver is removed from office.

ELECTION NOW!

Mikk and trapdiocan,

Be careful what you wish for, because what exactly makes you think that Shorten, Bowen and Co, given half a chance, wouldn't take us all into such a black fiscal hole that your grandchildren's grandchildren won't be cursing you for wishing such a mortgage on them, a mortgage that would ultimately have decimated future education, healthcare, industrial development, jobs, opportunity and prosperity - all in the name of an imagined re-balancing of the inequity of allowing business to invest in the economy for the benefit of all Australians, battler, middle-class, worker, boss and entrepreneur.

The historical proof is there, of 6 years of wishlists which have left a gaping hole below the waterline of vessel Oz.
Now the shipwrights have moved in to repair the damage, asking that the biggest drag on the anchor pitch-in and do some of the baling - to give the engineers and wheelwrights the chance to re-engage the engines.

Rudd and Gillard abandoned the 'dreamliner', before it fell foul of the shoals, leaving their motley crew of also-ran wannabees trying to steer by the same unreliable charts and chanting the same mutinous ditties.
I wouldn't trust these 'motleys' to service my car, let alone run the country.

Keep up the harping, and Labor will block everything that needs to be done to restore this country to future prosperity and opportunity, and it will serve you right - only you'll end up taking all of us with you, straight down the drain.

Joe said this is only the beginning ! Remember that, The states are being forced into raising the G.S.T as Joe decided that they take financial control over there Hospitals and Schools ! that is going to be another hit to your pocket that will definitely sting,
. Australia has a triple A rating worldwide there was no need for all this pain to be put upon the middle to low class no reason at all, pretty soon you will see homeless beggars on the streets of Australia because of this Governments policy on people who should be receiving unemployment benefits but will not instead they somehow have to support themselves on nothing for six months ? People on Disability support will be turned inside out to see whether they can work at all perhaps even 8 hours a week, meanwhile if they prove they cannot and stay on the D.S.P they will not be allowed to go overseas for any longer than 4 weeks at a time ! Why ? Universities are set to raise their fees up to $200.000 for entry, there goes any chance of the poor to middle class youth getting any university degree ! The silver spoon ones wont have any competition to deal with, So Joe its either earn or learn is it ? It appears to me you have cut one of those options out, as for the other ,where are all these jobs ? The ones for the aged, disabled and the youth ? This government is a nasty piece of work ! lets get rid of them before the damage is done, its time for a double dissolution of Parliament I hope Labor will take the lead they have been given a gift horse, I hope they use it ! For all our sake !

This is what John Howard said, after admitting that Abbott broke promises, "the Labor party are entitled to attack him (Abbott) and drag up what he said".

So even Howard is saying that Tax'Em Tony broke his election promises.

ToneLIAR is an unmitigated LIAR, he's deceitful and the voters can never again trust him in any future election (if he remains leader for that long).

MKK- You may be deceived but we are not,
A triple A rating is not given out lightly, Liberal has never managed to ever get one.
The rating is done by the strength of the economy in the short and long term perspective ! How can we be in financial turmoil enough to cut all these people off payments, hound the disabled take family tax benefits away remove the dependent spouse rebate and attack our health and schooling system when we have such a rating ? The Liberal deception was to project forward making no changes at all to current Labor policies and giving it enough time to drown in the billions, That is not how economics works Labor would have given the adjustments as they needed to to keep it on track, it was not going to be left just to eventually rot away ! That is how you have been fooled and many many others !
