What is it about conservatives and education, I suspect it can be traced back to their primeval roots when educating the masses was seen as inviting disaster. Educated people think, thinking people question, questioning people react. The last thing conservatives want is educated, thinking people questioning their capitalist system, heaven forbid the next thing you know an educated class will be calling for equality and justice for all, and we can not have that.
But then there is a problem running a modern capitalistic system, it cannot function like the old systems with masses of uneducated simple minded "slaves" to make the capitalist rich. Now here is the rub, modern capitalism requires educated workers to operate, yet that goes against the philosophy. People like Abbott will always have a problem when it comes to education, spending money on the undeserving, yet finding it necessary to do so. Now if it was a question of spending on militarism the conservatives have no problem, protection of capital is paramount.

Don't you all mean 'GONSKI'S', because there are several versions, determined only by the level of desperation from madam Julia in her dying days as a failed leader.

But hey, why let the truth get in the way of a good story!

The mad monk was rock solid on his commitment, but then again he was in con mood. The election was based on lies that bold the people of au were conned.
Abbott and his agenda will come forward, with workplace reforms, pretty much as predicted.
As yet they have done nothing, but whinge and make bad blood.

579, we will soon be forced to make some serious choices, workplace reforms or business failures, resulting in mass job losses.

If you don't believe me, just keep watching.

Foxy Foxy Foxy, you are letting yourself be fooled my sweet.

In my early years I went to school in hot hot Townsville, in a single skin unlined timber school, with a tin roof. We had at least 35 in each class, but the teacher had a cane.

I don't recall him using it, & was never a recipient, but we all knew it was there, so discipline was excellent. I can still receipt my tables, & do mental arithmetic quicker than most can use a calculator.

All the kids I did senior school with knew more at 16 than any of my kids at 17, & my kids were all in the top 12%, [OP 1 to 3] in Queensland.

It has nothing to do with the classroom, & everything to do with the class. The class of the teacher that is.

Here in a large 1600 student near city, country school, there is only one teacher who could pass an exam on Math C or Physics. In fact I doubt either of the other 2 senior math teachers could pass a Math B exam.

The ladies, [I use the term loosely] who have taken over education in Qld are very serious about Performing Arts, Media Studies, & rounded, [does that mean fat], human beings, but have little interest in subjects they don't understand like Math.

Any more money is sure to give us bigger & better stage management systems, but little improvement in the 3 Rs, when most of our teachers don't have them, & management is not interested.

Surely you would like our kids to be able to read the bus timetable, & make change for the ticket, without electronic help.
