What this country needs is people that are rational, and not people that make stupid statements, the polls were always going to surge, mostly because people despise the thought of Abbott becoming a PM.
We can't compare policies, there is nothing to compare with. So popularity is the only thing people can see as being of use. Abbott is an imposter, and a thief,so what choice do you have. Posted by doog, Monday, 15 July 2013 7:10:40 AM

Read the polls
See the changes in policy Then mate suck it up, the answer if you then still need it is yes. Abbott is blocking your party,s drains. For how long. Hopefully till after the election. Posted by Belly, Monday, 15 July 2013 7:43:42 AM

There is only one thing that is more flabbergasting than Abbott being preferred PM, as he was a short while ago, and this is that Rudd is again PM, and is preferred over Abbott!
If there is one person in the world that Abbott would be preferable over, it is resurrected Rudd! How is it possible that with the asylum-seeker issue being so emotive and prominent, and with the cause of it all clearly being one K Rudd, that this very same person is now again our PM, and is enormously popular? How schizophrenic is the Australian populace in this regard? Posted by Ludwig, Monday, 15 July 2013 8:47:36 AM

Maybe its because the people don't share your views, Rudd did not cause any boat people, boaters will always slow to nothing during the monsoon period.
Abbott supported the boaters by not giving a vote for Malaysia. The only real solution. Abbott's solution is to cause regional conflict, least of all being banned from Indonesian waters. Policies is what is making a difference, not slogans, or Tv adds all in the past tense. Turnbull is feeling the water for temperament. Posted by doog, Monday, 15 July 2013 9:08:11 AM

Ludwig,

This surly goes to show how ridiculous the so called democracy that we have is.
The large swinging vote that has swung right across to the other side is composed of voters who will go for the best that is on offer. never mind if it is good for the country, the environment or for the population just greedily grabbing what is on offer. they want to fiddle with their I phones, send silly texts, buy cars that have a bad fuel consumption, build houses that are far too big and generally behave like the idiots they are. It should be mandatory that all voters pass an IQ test before they are allowed to vote. The system has thrown up leaders of all parties that are a joke. None are capable of leading into the future in a clever or sustainable way. They just want to grab power and will say or do anything to get it. You can almost see the power slipping from the cons grasp cant you.
The fear in the posts here and on abbott and co's faces is palpabable. How long before the Lieberals wake up and dump people skills and put the Turnbull back in the big chair. I dont know whether to laugh or cry. :) Posted by mikk, Monday, 15 July 2013 12:15:40 PM

Seems to me Belly that it's just another game to you, and you want to win, regardless of what it takes.
doog, I was not aware the monsoon period went for almost six years. Like it or not, Rudd did cause the problem. As for Turnbul, he would make a great labor leader himself, however I do admire him for his success. Posted by rehctub, Monday, 15 July 2013 12:51:30 PM

Tell me Doog, why do people despise Abbot ?
Could it be that it is just a tatic we have seen here such as ? "It will be a disaster if Abbot becomes PM !" etc etc etc and so on. There just seems to be a mass of statements like that with no substance. Aus naval ships going to the aid of vessels in distress being banned ! Whoppee, I hope so, might make the Indos get out of harbour and do their job instead of bludging on others. You obviously don't know how SOLAS works or you would not make statements like that. A ships obligation is to take those rescued at sea to either the nearest port or its next port of call. However as most are in the Indonesian Rescue Zone they should be taken there especially as they are Indonesian vessels. I suggest Doog before sounding off you find out some background info. No one has to sound off Bazz, It has become clear Abbott can not handle the task of a would be PM. He continually falters, explaining the slightest things.
In the past he has not been called upon to state policies or attend debates. You must tell the people what you stand for. Some of the statements he comes out with, it's hard to believe it has been discussed with his colleges. He is obviously a denier of climate change, so that does not say much about getting off oil and coal. The coalition has got better spokespersons than that on their side. I do wonder if it's just the usual honey moon, however, what puzzes me is how one single person (of some 102) can make such a difference.
It also suggests that many within the party are pretty much useless without a popular leader.
While some believe most voters vote for their local member, this surge proves without doubt that most vote for the party/PM they want, then search out the member they need to vote for come ballet day.
I say this as many local members were well behind in the polls, yet they are now back in contention, through no doing of their own.
Is this the type of party we want running our country, especially given the debt they have racked up, and the way they have or should I say, he has, trashed our borders.
It also suggests that many of the local members are simply pawns, as they quite obviously have little bearing on the parties direction.
I'm not sure if this is what our country needs right now.
