I have no intention of voting for Labor in the upcoming election.
However, I'll be putting my vote to the best use I can in upper house to ensure the Libs "don't" gain control of the upper house. What a freaky possibility. Tell me again, SM. Was it control of both houses that induced Mr Howard to introduce Work Choices? And can you refresh my memory as to whether or not it was the introduction of Work Choices which heralded his demise? Just imagine what could happen if Tony got hold of it! Posted by Poirot, Tuesday, 25 June 2013 4:34:55 PM

If the Mad Monk was to get control of both houses of parliament we will all be required to attend church twice on Sundays instead of the planned mandatory once. I can hear a few atheists out there snickering "I just wont turn up" sorry sinner, it will be Archy Pell's inquisition, then the rack and thumb screws for you! Miss two Sundays in a row and things will really hot up.
Those of you who thought Howards Work Choices was bad, wait till you cop a serve of Abbotts Church Choices. Posted by Paul1405, Tuesday, 25 June 2013 6:07:26 PM

Paul1405, thanks for giving me even more nightmares re the probable future PM!
Gillard and her Party may well be a loser this September, but I fear for what is ahead under the Mad Monks 'leadership'. Abbott's true colours will emerge soon after the 'victory', and he starts embarrassing us on a much larger world stage than his current Opposition Leader position. I look forward to some lively debates ahead on OLO... Posted by Suseonline, Tuesday, 25 June 2013 7:35:16 PM

Thank god we have mind reader Paul to tell us what Abbott is thinking. I do find it interesting how these lefties always can tell us what the libs really meant to say.
Suse, after Rudd & Gillard, Mickey Mouse would be an improvement on what we have had in the embarrassment department. Actually at present it is more shame most of us feel with this idiot representing us over seas. Posted by Hasbeen, Tuesday, 25 June 2013 9:15:26 PM

Paul,
Thanks for reminding us why the Greens are considered the Mad Hatters of the parliament. 3 years ago Juliar knifed Krudd, and said "game on" to TA. I look forward in 3 months to her concession speech to TA, and then her resignation as Labor leader. If the coalition gets control of both houses, I look forward to the unwinding of some of the 22000 new regulations that are strangling business, and the carbon tax that Juliar promised she would never deliver. Never say never in politics.
For reasons that seem clear Rudd may take the poisoned chalice just after the house rises. He may then avoid the election being rushed before its stated time. That would give him time, and too Turnbull. Abbott has found refuge under Gillards skirts. But his sealed lips on his true nature, may not work with a real politician. Belly, there has to be a leadership spill before parliament rises on Friday. How else would Labor caucus when all their MP's will be off to their electorates to wait for the September firing squad.
Hasbeen, no one can tell what Abbott's thinking, for the simple reason he does not think. Archy Pell does all his thinking for him. "after Rudd & Gillard, Mickey Mouse would be an improvement" too true, but Micky was the smart one, your side is led by the dumbo Donald Duck. Sorry Suseonline about the nightmares but with the Mad Monks Church Choices, it's going to be hair shirts and self flagellation and that's just for his supporters like SM and Hasbeen. Don't worry, for you and I, and they might throw in Belly, Tony has much worse planned, just to remind you, from September crucifixions will take place on Fridays. Do not worry about the poor under a Mad Monk government, there will be plenty of room for all of them in the new Pius X Memorial Work House, once known as Centrlink head office. Come September its not all bad news, at least Tony plans to implement the finding of the Gonski Report into the federal governments funding for monasteries. I do believe, and possible SM can confirm this, the first order of business for a Mad Monk government will be the canonisation of Little Johnny Howard, who hence forth will be known as St John the Wombat. that alone makes me feel worm and fuzzy. SM what will be your roll in the new Mad Monk government? Court Jester. "Greens are considered the Mad Hatters of the parliament" SM stop trying to butter us up, no way are we going into coalition with the Mad Monk. Bob told Tony that in 2010 when the dear boy was prostrate on the floor in Bob's office begging crying and squealing, please, please. pretty please, make me PM. Bob said "No way Tony." Thanks for that Paul!
The real ending of any reasonable thoughts that Abbott may not be too bad in the top job ended for me a few years ago after reading this newspaper article: http://www.news.com.au/breaking-news/national/mp-backs-pell-over-sex-claim/story-e6frfku9-1111116878416 With all the latest awful findings against the Catholic Church re hiding paedophiles within their ranks, I remain disgusted that a possible future PM like Abbott is even being considered for that role. Abbott continued to support this lying good mate Cardinal Pell after Pell supported an abusive Priest discussed in the above article . "Dr Pell had dismissed the complaint against Father Goodall in 2003 after giving weight to the priest's claim the encounter was consensual." Posted by Suseonline, Wednesday, 26 June 2013 10:08:18 AM

Dear Suse,
We're being told that nasty, negative, nay saying Mr Abbott has suddenly become "nice" Mr Abbott in the dark blue suit, white shirt, blue Tie. This as one author pointed out, should be a WTF moment! Can this chameleon be trusted? For almost 3 years this man (for want of a better word) has used a wrecking ball strategy designed to bring down the government as quickly as possible. It has been a campaign not very different to the bully tactics he used to dominate and destroy the student union at Sydney University, supposedly riddled with communists. Mr Abbott has failed. The government is still there, damaged but still afloat. The PM in the meantime has soldiered on, introducing some world first legislation and social reforms. Do we really want an Opposition that has had a campaign of destruction, involving lies, fear mongering, unproven allegations, smear tactics, elected as our government? Do they deserve that? We would all have enormous respect for an Opposition who played a clean game. Who challenged a government's policies and pointed out their flaws, who provided alternative policies that won broad support. Mr Abbott has not played that kind of game. There must be consequences to that - surely. And the MSM is equally culpable. It looks like all the "nasties," that used to be on the fringes of society have all of a sudden been allowed to enter center stage - and are now influencing the direction in which the country should go. And they are being allowed a voice in the media as well. Goodness me. Frightening to say the least. Lexi,
Cutting and pasting from the one man blogg "the Snipper". How many rocks did you have to turn over to come up with this toad? We're being told that nasty, spiteful, lying Ms Gillard has suddenly become "nice" Ms Gillard knitting with the fluffy dog. This as one author pointed out, should be a WTF moment! Can this chameleon be trusted? For almost 3 years this woman (for want of a better word) has used a wrecking ball strategy designed to bring down the economy as quickly as possible. It has been a campaign not very different to the bully tactics she used to dominate and destroy the AWU union at Gordon and Slater, supposedly riddled with socialists. Ms Gillard has failed. The economy is still there, damaged but still afloat. The PM in the meantime has soldiered on, introducing some world worst legislation and social reforms. Gday SM! just dropped in to spoil your day.
With Rudd back [9am tomorrow] your maths need attention. Of even more importance watch Abbott,s back. Turnbull is on the rise every poll that shows Rudd has Abbott,s measure. Helped by the Americans stand on carbon and Abbott,s mad plan to tax us and reward polluters. Too on Abbott instructing Turnbull to fight NBN while Turnbull is investing big time in the very same thing over seas. Go the mighty BLUES. Posted by Belly, Wednesday, 26 June 2013 3:12:20 PM

Belly,
If Rudd knifes Juliar, the circle of treachery will be complete. If Juliar does not resign, Krudd will have broken a promise made many times, and will lead a broken party. While Krudd will be able to avoid the carbon tax lie, he is still responsible for the border chaos. Krudd is not fit to lead, as most of his old cabinet have testified on TV, and is unlikely to survive past September. The rapidly changing talking heads of NSW should be a strong lesson on what to expect. His popularity is not because people believe he can lead, it is because voters are sick of Juliar. The bounce if any will not save Labor. As for Turnbull, whose popularity is strong amongst labor voters but weak amongst liberals, that TA dragged two labor PMs to the the gallows is enough to cement his place. Abbott and Pyne have already started on Rudd (as they assume he'll be back as PM by tomorrow) during their speeches for the suspension of standing orders this avo.
So whatever happens, they'll be P..ed off if Julia gets rolled. Posted by Poirot, Wednesday, 26 June 2013 4:16:23 PM

Ballot at 7pm tonight......
Interesting the Rudd camp have been taking their time with this effort, using the "petition" to prepare the ground. The Gillard camp would be in a hurry to call the spill, but I believe the Rudd camp has that covered from prior experience. Gillard says if she loses tonight, she'll retire from politics. Posted by Poirot, Wednesday, 26 June 2013 4:22:53 PM

Gillard is gone now of course, and Rudd is in the top job.
Abbott has never been a popular leader in the electorate until his demolition of Gillard and labor started taking its toll. If I were a Liberal supporter, I would be worried today... Posted by Suseonline, Wednesday, 26 June 2013 10:01:33 PM

SOL,
"If I were a Liberal supporter, I would be worried today..." Well you're not, and neither are we. Is Kevin going to run on his record? Are we all supposed to forget what a complete stuff up he made of it last time? Are the voters going to forget that Labor that brought us a raft of bad policies under both KRudd and Juliar? If Gillard wins 42 seats or less, she would have delivered Labor's worst hiding since the war, or since the Liberals existed. If internal ALP polling was to be believed, the outcome could be far worse than this.
For a while it was looking as though she would pass the poisoned chalice onto Rudd, but it is starting to look as though her pride, and Rudd's cowardice will ensure that she snatches this last record for her memoirs.
A cherry on the top would be coalition control of both houses.
