Paul, on behalf of the at least 50 percent of ham radio operators who came from CB.
Those actively keeping ham radio, mine and Bazz hobby, running, may I say sorry.
In using the term to insult Bazz lets himself ignore, todays bes at building running and maintaining our net work, community radio, fire brigade and the services, Road rescue, emergency services.
Are, with pride ex CB radio operators.
KNOW BAZZ in 1970 my then teacher warned older folk in Ham radio did not want us in it !
I proudly passed a few yearslater and it is from CB radio we gained todays operators.

ok Bazz fair enough, my respect for you is dead just as the good you once did for our hobby, and you are from its past.
I from its present days, have given radios new, to new calls as a help for them and the hobby your words are those of the very old overly self confident without good reason.

I came back to say to all posters I am sorry for my outburst.
But not retracting a word.
I am aware I get hot at times.
This time it must look strange to many.
CB Citizens Band radio, first came to this country in the hands of a ham radio operator.
The very well known,even loved Dick Smith, he had a full call, highest ticket you an get ham radio call.
He was known by his CB call* tricky Dicky*
First the hobby was not legal, yet soon half a milion radios had been sold, mainly gear no longer legal in America.
Before unwise folk, just a few, fought to stop payment of the then legal CB radios, licenses got to over 300.000 and that many operating without paying.
CB, like any thing with that number, say facebook today, or the very drunk old man on ham radio late most nights, had its problems.
Along came UHF a cleaner form of legal CB, apart from a group, legends in their own minds, Australian Truck drivers, good respectful use is made all over this country by users.
Wifes listen for problems the men may have out on the tractors,husbands can come home when needed.
Both forms of radio are montored to help motorists in trouble, not as much post mobile phones but as often in the very same room as a hams licensed radio, as mine do are on , 24/7
Peoples radio,has saved lives and saved from sure death my prized hobby, ham radio.
All have long and proud history includeing some very brave coast watchers in ww2.
And this countrys very first Broadcast radio station was first started by a ham, Sydney's 2fc.
No group is all bad none all good.
But a form of near bigotry has been known from persons holding the ham license to all they claim are lower than them.
So sorry but I need to defend ordinary people from slurs.
