Kevin Rudd wants to keep unfair dismissal in a slightly diluted form.It will be bad news for small business since the lawyers will make merry with sending many businesses broke on the whim of a dishonest worker.The average payout just 12mths ago was $20,000.00 and this will discourage employment.

John Howard on the other hand needs to make work place agreements more balanced since it does give the upper hand to the employer particularily with semi-literate workers under unscrupulous bosses.It has not been well planned and the Coalition will lose the next election if they don't see the potential for this imbalance.The public are not stupid.

Neither the labor party or the liberal party will find balance.

One party is for big business
and the other supposadly for the workers.

It will not happen.

Change is needed for this to happen.

The theory in reducing tarrifs was that living standards in places like China would gradually increase to meet ours in a globally competitive environment.We reduced tarrifs for fear we might lose technological advances and become a back water of isolation.

The reality is this ,China has a great reservoir of cheap labour that will be around for decades and the world does not have enough resources and energy to raise their standards on masse to ours.This has been a flawed assumption of free trade proponents.

I think that John Howard's IR reform has a long term aim of competing with places like China on their terms.We will all be losers if this eventuates.The level playing field does not and will not exist.John Howard said that he would not pick winners in raising tarrifs to protect certain industries.It is not a matter of picking winners but a matter of keeping viable industries here.Would John Howard let his grandchild compete against Ian Thorp in swimming and call this a level playing field?I think not.

We are bleeding to death via our balance of payments deficit and creating a little America with huge pools of cheap poor labour is not the kind of Australia I want to see.

The Labor party have campaigned hard against the new Workchoice regime of the Federal Liberal party, insisting that they will rip it up and decentralise its power.

Kevin's proposed changes to the unfair dismissal laws whereby employers with less than 15 employees have 12 months to dismiss their employees, and 6 months for those employers with more the 15 employees, does not give any job security to any National Australian worker.

The Labor advertisments whereby a mother is told that she will be dismissed if she does not show up for work and has no baby sitter, clearly indicates the Trojan that the Labor party have handed Australian women, part time and casual workers.

Labor is currently aware that business is in the grip of a Labour crisis, whereby they can console themselves, that an Employer would only want to keep a good employees.

But as Kevin says, what's going to happen after the Resources boom?

Conceded, strike action by ballot is taking away the power of Union executives and those who presume to represent it, and return power to the members.

As we suspected, Labor will not change the Workchoice regime, but give it a new title at the cost to the Australian taxpayer.

Kevin Rudd and the Labor parties strategy on vote analysis, is to gain the conservative business vote of the Liberal party to tip the scales in Labor's favour.

Labor is willing to do so by continuing to serve Australian workers heads to business on a 6-12 month platter.
