Jails should be tertiary colleges

hi everyone,

I think jails should be tertiary colleges...
with compulsory courses for all

I just did a small check for jail reform online and could not
find much

should be interesting, I read somewhere recently that
most jails have a literacy skill level of the average of
eleven year olds.....

if anyone can guide me to some jail reform organisations would be cool

there is no point, in producing fully abusive colleges, which is
what all jails are,
some worse than others....

I had a young man who had been in jail short term, tell me years ago that
the oldies ran the jail....
and no one else

Excellent suggestion. The only potential problem I can see is the government having to deal with...

'Hey, criminals are getting a free education! And us law abiding citizens, we have to pay?!?'

Of course, the solution is to make all education completely free and accessible, but something tells me we're only heading further away from that world.

Spendocrat, you are right. If we could sell it as rehabilition though, with a long-term gain for educated and focussed individuals who have been given the tools to make an honest living and be less of a burden in the future (welfare, additional jail terms etc), then it might actually be swallowed. If that were the goal, I'd support it.

Some 20 years ago 90% of inmates in jails could not read, were dyslectic or had other learning difficulties.

Now that we are stuffing our jails with female drug addicts that % must have changed.

We not only need education in our jails but we also need good follow up procedures to help people back into society with a place to live and a job.

We also need good cognitive, intellectual and personality assessment by trained psychologists. Also a complete medical from a-z.

If this had happened when the inmate was 12 he most likely would not have ended up in jail.
