Electricity Prices: Raise Prices 10% or Reduce Prices 10%

This is a real hot potato. Many think the power companies are just going to take government Carbon Tax compensation and are spinning us a yarn on “poles and wires” when it is their own salaries which cause the price rises. Power prices have risen as high as 80% (NSW) over the last 5 years. Others with top environmental credentials will no doubt join the side pushing for bigger price rises so that Australian consumers shift to more sustainable sources of power which we need to do. Sell coal overseas to keep on polluting, but not in our backyard?? Join one or other side of the Electricity price campaign on www.voterland.org

If the carbon tax is to force producers toward clean energy, that will not be achieved when they charge it to consumers plus their normal margin. They will only change if they suffer financially. So, at the same time as they pay the tax, consumers need to press for price reductions. Voterland is looking for accountants and financial analysts to help prepare a case for cutting prices by cutting costs along the power chain.

There are a few things that both consumers and power companies can do to negate some of the costs until we scrap this obscene tax; that is if they really want to [wink wink, nudge nudge]

Several years ago we used to buy our power (Qld) directly from SEQEB/ENERGEX then, people started suing them for power losses, spikes that caused malfunction of appliances, resulting in losses.

So now the likes of Energex, sell power to retailer, who in turn buy and sell to us, adding their margins along the way.

The result is we now have an extra level of mouths to feed along the supply chain, so the price goes up.

BTW, you can no longer sue the power provider as they simply buy and sell.

Clever mob arn't we!
