The great compo scam

There is a growing trend towards people claiming compo for prolonged injuries, suffered from working.

Now it has to be questioned, that if a person takes a job, finds that the very nature of the task (usually repetitive) is causing discomfort to a certain joint, limb etc, is it then fair to go on compo some years latter, knowing full well the injury was occurring.

Remembering of cause, that some people can perform the same tasks, or similar, for a life time and not be effected.

It is becoming all to common at present and in fact, I know of three people who are doing just that.

They complained about the soreness being experienced, yet continued in the job, which was obviously unsuitable to them, and are now on compo, and at least one is seeking a payout.

And of cause, as more and more of these cases exist, premiums increase, placing yet more pressure on employers, as the additional premium funds have to be found, often at the cost of jobs.

I would have to question their action, (employees) under the common insurance heading of 'duty of care' and ask if they are in fact in breach of their duty to inform the employer of the situation.

Perhaps employees need to sign a declaration at the commencement of each year, stating that they are not being effected by the tasks they are performing.

579....hub has a point too a point. I've talked about the 20% that is why.....(overseas workers) will work.

Its the same old problem/easy way out Australians try to go for. When one employs workers from abroad, they work without question, and this is of great advantage. When all red tape is cut, there are NO unions that don't follow them.....Belly will be quick to correct my mistake:)

Its like why the US! love Mexicans, but they wont tell you that:)

And lets face it!.....Australians just whinge and think the centre-link benefits, are their right to an easy living......and they cant understand why imports are a better bet.

Australians!.....if you don't get off your fat arses, you will leave BIG BUSINESS no other choice.

Workers comp should be scrapped and replaced by an incentive scheme.Intergrate Workers Comp with Super. If you have no claims, you get a reduction in your workers comp premium via getting a Super bonus each year.

The present system is been totally rorted and it is adding to job reductions. Many employers are just relocating OS.That's why we do not have a manufacturing industry.`

The other solution is to let workers get paid directly so they can buy their own accident insurance like they do car insurance. No insurance,no job start.

Perhaps we could scrap workers comp and move to a national disability scheme but what will be the incentives not to rort that scheme also?

One day the resources boom will come to an end and we will be stuffed.
