I think we could do a lot worse than sterilise all the kids who fail their School Certificate.

Are you for real? - who do you think you are? There are plenty of loving non addicted parents in the world who have raised wonderful children without a school certificate. Good luck if you ever have kids because with your attitude your gonna need it.

He is pulling your leg mate! has to be school certificate?for what?
My education stopped before 13 years of age it has bugger all to do with drug affected parents.
In fact some are from the highest incomes and highest education standards.
Take the kids of them, you can not take them to prison in any case and thats the place for anyone who puts themselves in front of the kids.
Sorry but we have a duty to give our kids a start in life and some just spend even the food money on this give me a better answer.
We owe nothing to those who will not help themselves yes give them a hand but draw the line some place.

Obviously If we are going to raise the standard of parenting, role models promoted by New Idea and Woman's Day will need to be vetted. Stars such as Paula Yates, Britney Spears, Courtney Love etc will have to be drug tested before they are allowed to have children. Forced sterilisation of all female rock stars or the female spouse of rock stars should be encouraged. Good grief, we would not want the little ones to be exposed to illegal drugs. Especially when legal drugs are available at every local pub and deemed safe by the authorities. (Where are the warning labels?)

Good discussion Carol-Lee. Congrats on raising what most see as too hard to even think about.

To Riddley, let's start with your family shall we? Regardless of education, it seems your ideas are from Nazi Germany mate. I'm afraid Ridley is serious Belly.

CJ raises a good point. Alcohol damages kids more than any other drug, directly and indirectly. Shooting all drug users is a top idea CJ. Do you drink at all? Ever in front of kids? Grab a blindfold if you have.

Offering free sterilisation? Where do these thoughts come from? Nazi Germany is my suggestion. The past is certain.

Our country is pulling iimmigrants in by the bucketload and you want to sterilise Australians. Good one. Perhaps there are some other measures we could consider before we jump to such radical rubbish.
Carol-Lee has asked a genuine question and deserves good answers. Not Nazi solutions, real ones.

For starters let's allow some possibility that it is society that shows these kids their lives are worthless, not just the parents. With leaders lying and avoiding responsibility every single day how are young people going to react? These are the "role models" that need to change. Rock stars do whatever simply because they can. They aren't role models even thogh many think so. They are simply shooting stars, temporary. Political leaders have a choice and should show the way, not the path to destruction.

We all know that banning anything achieves nothing except making more criminals. The hard drugs are banned and it stops no one. Why not drop the pretence and allow these drugs but only through prescription. With child carers being supervised. Yes I know, too hard, too costly. But what are the costs of not doing something like this? It's our future that is the cost. Ours and our children's futures.

Let's do the same with all drinkers too. They do the most damage by far and you all know that. They destroy families with abuse and disregard. Violence and more drinks.

We have evolved from the apes and in a survival situation there are real consequences for poor behaviour. In our near evolutionary past,if we didn't perform,we died. When we take the survival component from our humanity, decay is the order of the day.

In our society, many take drugs as a means of escaping their responsibilities.Past generations suffered much harsher conditions but family and social bonds were stronger and they were able to weather the storm. In modern times Govt has ursurped the stability of family cohesion and thus we have social and moral decay.

Arjay, why are people always "escaping" from their boring, drab and odious lives?

Simple mate, they want to have fun and forget the garbage that is dished out every single day. In many cases people don't want to escape at all. Just enjoy themselves. You ever do that yourself? Or is it always an "escape" when you have a drink, take pleasure in anything? Or are you pure and don't drink, smoke, eat or have sex.

Don't forget listening too (that awful, moving and horrible thing called music), that's an escape, and viewing anything, more escape. All mental drugs mate. Get into it for once instead of whining about others enjoying themselves.

Give me strength dear God of whoever's imagination.
