Why is that these people fly under the radar, while the tall poppies flog the likes of CEO,s and the pollies?

Surely they work harder and have more stress to deal with than sports stars.

Uninformed media folk are constantly calling for such as Ponting and others to go.
No understanding of the game but tall Poppy's, our best, can not have a beer with out idiots and media watching.

There must be some psychological reason that the general public feel that they have some affinity with celebrities because they try to emulate them and consequently hang on their every word. Why else would advertisers use them to promote things that they would often know nothing about..........It's because they are paid to to do so and are believed by the gullible public

Envy directed at the salaries of company CEOs is therefore never equated to the sort of money that sports stars or celebrities may demand, because they are not faceless as their counterparts in industry are and they don't "entertain" Look at the enormous sums of money the fans are prepared to pay to see their favourite star whether he sings or plays with a ball. I agree with Belly on this. Sports stars and other celebrities may not be critisised for the money they receive by put a foot wrong socially and they cop it.

For some reason footballers, of all codes, seem to let themselves down socially.

Don't you read all the nasty comments in the courier mail when there is an article about that little girl I admire for sailing round the world. The Brisbane locals are particularly nasty about Jessica, and you would think they would be supportive of one of their own. If Jessica ever trips up they will attack her like dogs around a dead sheep. So far she has done us proud in all activities, but make one mistake and she will cop it.

Another local the Brisbane readers try to cut down is Sam Stosur and I think she is to be admired. Take a look at the readers comments next time you see an article about the above two achievers, in the courier mail.

Can you tell me why many Courier Mail readers are so negative about Samantha Stosur?

Can you tell me why many Courier Mail readers are particularly nasty toward Jessica Watson? I have followed this girl since before her round the world voyage and read all the articles I can about her and her activities. This is something I have noticed and the nasty comments are far, far more prevelant in the Courier Mail than the Sydney or Melbourne papers. Both girls live close enough to Brisbane to be classed as locals, in a national setting.

Is it just the 'Tall Poppy' syndrone or are there more people in Brisbane that do not like to see anyone succeed. Is it jealosy? I really would like to know why this is so. I cannot see anything the girl has done that could warrant such vicious comments.

From my experience, if a person succeeds it is the result of hard work, commitment and dedication and such people are to be commended. Jessica was not handed anything on a platter.
