If you had read my posts you would see that, despite the fac that I have no time for them, I am not opposed to gays uniting, however, the married work is taken, so find another.

Alternatively, there are several countries that recognize gay marriage, so, go ther if you must, but please leave our plac alone.

We already suffer for no HO HO HO all because we take notice of these minority groups.

Rehctub, do you honestly believe that personal opinions and politics don't mix? I know plenty of mindless drones who are incapable of forming opinions beyond the merits of XXXX and Tooheys, or the relative prettiness of different shoes. Frankly, I don't want those people running my state.

As for Mr Newman, if Lexi's summary is correct, he's stated his opinion and made it quite clear that he won't be acting on it because he doesn't see community support or interest. Sounds quite intelligent to me. As the government is currently making noises about gay marriage, it's only natural that he would be asked questions about it. What would you have him do - reply 'no comment' and allow the papers to suggest that he has something to hide?

I have my doubts about Newman, but I'm thankful that there's at least enough brain activity going on in his head for him to formulate an opinion.
