The upcoming celebrations for the Sydney Harbour Bridge prompt me to ask,"Would Sydney be a more pleasant place if the Bridge had never been built, or have been built as a rail crossing only?".

Before it was built the journey from Circular Quay to any of the stations between Milson's Point (where Luna Park now stands) and Hornsby was quicker than it is today, and it included a ferry trip.
North Sydney was a dormitory suburb and with an efficient tram service to other suburbs.

The Bridge changed everything eventually bringing the chaos attendant on through traffic to both the City and North Sydney.

Was it worth it

...was it insensitive of me to see the title of this thread and automatically assume the topic was on abortion?
