Frankly BrettH,

"Maybe Wayne Swan is a smart man and complicated in thought, this progresses through to his current budget; a man driven to maintain a bar already set above him, feeding his push to over compensate in fear of failure if achievement is not meet overall. ",

is the biggest of Liberal Party tosses. A myth of ethical proportions".

Costello did not set any high bars in my book as Treasurer, if that is what you are alluding too BrettH. In fact no major economic decisions were made during his tenure. With the exception of the great big new tax GST, that created it's own inflationary bubble.

Inflation was higher when Howard lost office than when he gained office. As was the unemployment level. Costello knew that allowing ideologues to drive the economic decision making, would not be good for Australia's long term future, but didn't have the bottle to stand up to them. And now we suffer the consequences.

Swan has also had the GFC to contend with as well as having received an economy that lacked regulation and consumer protections/safety nets from the Howard reign. If anything, Wayne Swan stands guilty of the same indolence as Costello, in failing to adequately reverse the damage done, so far. Today, the consumer/employee blames whomever is in Gov't now, for the fact that their future is less assured, less predictable, less Australian if you like, than it once was.

As far as Wayne Swan was concerned, (about emanating the feats of his predecessor),
I would have thought that this would have been the least of his worries at the moment , with one eye cocked on both the American and European economies.
