Ex Queensland Labor Front-bencher, Gordon Nuttall
convicted of corruption is to be "allowed" a
20 minute hearing by the Queensland Parliament
today to "plead his case"!

The Speaker of the House has indicated that if
Nuttall "strays" off the immediate subject he will
immediately be removed from the Chamber and returned
to his cell in prison!

Methinks that this Queensland Government has an
awful lot to fear from this man and he should be
allowed to make his allegations and be heard in
the people`s forum - Parliament!

If this opportunity to "blow the whistle" is denied
this man, then in the interest of Public transparency
this will cast a very suspicious shadow over the rest
of Anna Bligh`s cabinet members.

I am wondering if after Nuttall`s taped interview
with Rob Messenger, and other allegations made by
Nuttall, the Crime and Misconduct Commission is now
investigating the whole issue, or will it be shelved
to avoid further embarassment to this questionable
State Government?

Whilst we are looking at this issue, we could also
take a close look at the issuing of compensation
payments to Flood and Cyclone victims from the Appeal
that allegedly raised $250million, now being controlled
by David Hamill.....will this Fund EVER be subjected
to an Independent Audit, to bring transparency
to the utilization of the remaining monies or will the
remaining funds disappear into the State coffers?

he turned it down[just like any idiot who dont know how the just us system works do...and felt the full weight of the 'law'

take a plea deal..for testifying against you..[nutty/bloke]
then the raids to fish for info

Crackcup, I think that there is a very high chance that Nuttall has copped it much more severely than he should have.

I think he is right in saying that the parliamentary fine is a case of double jeopardy. That is; of him being fined again today for just the same thing that he is in jail for.

I also think that his former colleagues were far too eager to condemn him and join the feeding frenzy, as he put it.

But most significantly, I think that there is the most enormous hypocrisy happening here, as governments accept big donations from big business donors all the time, and they do NOT accept them without a considerable decision-making bias resulting in the favour of the donors!

Quite apart from the donations regime, many politicians work to get what their big biz buddies want and to secure good relations in the business sector so that they will get lucrative positions in their post-political lives.

In fact, this donations regime has enormously corrupted our political system as it very strongly sways the government to pander to the profit motive of the business sector, and basically forego their duty of care to the whole community where the two clash, which they do, big time!

Actually, when you think about it, Nuttall’s actions weren’t really far out the norm at all. They sat pretty well within the paradigm of powerful people doing favours for those in influential positions. If anything, they were just a bit more blatant than most.

Ken Talbot and Harold Shand, two highly respected and very astute businessmen who have been accused and convicted (respectively) of corrupt payments to Nuttall, surely wouldn’t have made any such payments if they could see any danger in being charged and convicted of an offence as a result. It all sat pretty much within the realms of normal practice and acceptable behaviour at the time, I would think.

So it would appear that the system is off the rails and that Nuttall has been scapegoated by many who know full well that there are plenty of others involved in ‘unclean’ behaviour, and that the whole political system is fundamentally just as corrupt.
