The "local dog catcher" I'm over it!

I work in conjunction with the local pound and it all comes back to responsible pet ownership.

A lot of people just don't realise what type and amount of time and energy NEEDS to be invested in an animal.

They need to be properly trained, cared for, supervised, legalised and restrained to fit into the local community without being a nuisance.

I see the result of irresponsible pet ownership daily, it's ugly and cruel.
Worst of all the general public seem to think that whatever goes wrong with their current animal can be fixed by impounding or 'losing' it, resulting in the animal 9 times out of 10 being euthanaised (after stressing to the point of depression and sickness)
Then these people get a new animal and start the ugly cycle all over again.

Register the animal, desex them, chip and vaccinate them and be responsible for their behavior. If this seems too much to ask then don't get an animal.
Definitely don't complain about it either.

The dog catchers have to impound dogs because they can be dangerous to the public if roaming around and uncared for. The dog catchers I know hate having to kill beautiful creatures as the result non compliance.

On the note of walking leashless in a no roam zone, that's the unfortunate thing about public access areas, they are for the public and safety and comfort have to be monitored.

Dogs can be a dangerous animal when prompted. Not everyone can rely on other people to properly socialise their own animal, leading to fear of random dog approaching their own 'much loved fido'

Not to mention that dogs have personalities too and may not take to one particular K9 friend as he did another.

Even if fido is an easy going love all type of dog, the fear stemming from another pet owner may be picked up by their own dog resulting in what is a 'protect my master' dog fight. They are unpredictable sometimes and safety needs to be considered.

That's me done for now.

It comes down to the rights of people to behave in a certain way and how that 'right' might inflict on another's right to be able to walk down their street without being attacked by a roaming animal.

Rights are not just about one set of people. It has to be looked at from the big picture, similar to other perceived 'infringements' such as smoking in restaurants or walking down the street in the nuddy.

The posts on this topic have proved true to expectation; but I did make specific complaints viz.,

1. Officious and threatening nature of Council inspectors.
2. Variation to the degree of threat posed across the spectrum of dog breeds.
3. The official “broad spectrum” campaign against dogs (and their owners) across all areas of our community.
4. The unreasonable constrictions imposed on dog owners by local Council regulations, preventing owners from successfully exercising their pets in an open environment, free of the constraint of a lead.

Responsible pet owners are the good guys: They post the droppings in the bin: They constrain their dog if it poses any threat to others: They comply with Council requirements, and they care for their pets humanely.

How about a system for dog owners that gives them greater flexibility to the exercise regime for their animals, and distinguishes the good from the bad, in both dog and owner, in a more sensible and civil manner

The posts on this topic have proved true to expectation; but I did make specific complaints viz., yes....but some dog owners seem to let there mongrels piss everywhere, however most do restrain themselves.

I think its the barking one's that gives me the sh!ts, and most pointlessly at times, but what is a dog to do:)
