Have you ever been short changed.
If you pay cash for those little things like Coffee or lunch you have been.
ABC radio last week a caller referred to an inland NSW city as short change town, having been there I knew it was true.
Some make good money stealing just a little bit of yours.
$50 tendered bill was $8 change $41! it happens more often than you think those who serve us watch for those not paying attention and it takes place.
Watch those smaller shop price markdowns, or items without prices on them.
You are often the fish the bait is a new price offering 25% of,but if you buy a few different things? not discount its full price.
Not once not even twice my discounter has tried to over change me 4 times for sale items.
Seen the young reach for the calculator to give change?
Some truly need it to make change but just a few make cash because we rarely count our change.
An American book about con men in the great depression showed how gate keepers, shop assistants and such skim a lot of Money by reading customers, we should watch too.

Short-changing by taxi drivers is rife, especially of young people returning home after a night out. A taxi driver recently short-changed an acquaintance who was returning to nearby accommodation after day surgery. The driver gave change out of $20, instead of the $50 tendered.

There is a late night grocery shop not far away from us where five, ten, or twenty dollar notes are regularly 'missed' in change. A sure sign is where they don't leave the note tendered on the cash register while completing the transaction, then they appear to be busy after. The perpetrators must practice, because they are so skilled.

It is theft, but outside of asking for correct change no-one seems to lodge complaints.

Here I was thinking your sexual partner was lacking.

I'm comfortable enough not to notice. I figure if they can put one over on me, good luck to them.

Same as when visiting third world countries, I see it as part of my contribution to those who have less than me.

Hard to prove that isn't wasn't "genuine" error. It's up to you to make sure you're not ripped off especially when you're handing over larger notes and check the EFTPOS total. Errors DO happen, especially when it's busy.

I check my change. Imagine being the sales clerk who has to account for a loss at the end of the day. Mistakes can be over-change as well.

Also if short-changed I can kindly point that out - I think 99% of the mistakes are genuine and not deliberate attempts to scam. I am sure of this because I do check and see the reactions of people when they have made a mistake. If people just walk away without checking, they'll never know if the sales clerk lost their job for making a mistake.

Deliberate scams are the fees systems charged by banks - for the smallest action. Money for nothing. I wish it was the clerks who got that money instead of the bloated banks.

I have noticed that on the occasions I have had to say "excuse me, I think you've given me the wrong change", 50% of the time was because it was too much, and 50% because it was too little.

That's spooky.

I do not want to appear cynical[ oh good by to you too howler] but I think it is often a scam.
Yes if it is my way or the other I say so, but it is a scam, surely 25% of on sale items still charged full rate at from cash register is not just failure to program if it is an every day thing?
That American book told of thousands stolen every week just at the front gate of Cony Island.
Another maybe related issue is kids needing a calculator to give change at the arches burger place.

The care factor of many staff today is close to zero. Esspecially places like the 'big M' or HJ's where they mainly hire school kids.

After all, between their texting, twitering, MSN and daily planning of their 'social lives', there really isn't much time left to worry about how well they do their job.

Most mistakes are just that, mistakes and, they do go both ways.

Now as for not allocating discounts, well, these to can go both ways, but very rarely does one complain if the price has not gone back up to normal once the sale is over.

I was not trying to bash people over the head in starting this thread.
I in the your thoughts thread started something I had considered for a while.
Getting new posters involved and different thread subjects.
While I revel in politics it is clear some are bored by it.
Gods get big threads, but can we explore new things?
Yes but first we must open our eyes.
It is true people make mistakes.
And that not all mistakes are planned.
But my discounter is a cheap shop, half the stock, often junk, is discounted every day.
I collect books, only worth while ones but who can tell by the cover?
Wandering about I also buy toys for my dogs Sky and Blue to pull apart.
I took a toaster to the counter, my diet is dead.
It said 33% of, it cost full price.
nice young girl said sorry it happens all the time, female owner said it does not and firmly told her of.
Sandwich Maker the next week, same story, followed by in next two weeks large water bottle and last weekend a slow cooker.
Now this time I stood my ground had the owner bought to counter.
Very many older pensioners had lined up not at all happy to wait for me.
But on hearing my complaint? every one of the had such a story about that shop.
Face it,like our pens, cash is handled when most are thinking of other things and some , not all get away with it .
How often do we count our change?
oh the girls, dogs own me not the other way around

Long days and sometimes nights at work killed my diet for a while.
Comfort food has seen me short changed quite a lot in the past few months.
Returning from a Sunday Ham radio event and trying to meet some one same day it was KFC that cost me.
Nice young Lady asked do you want to upgrade, me no thanks it is only a few more chips.
She then asked a few general questions took my 20 bucks, went behind the counter? thought is strange but was on phone.
Put all the change in a pocket, I never do that, said thanks have a great day mate, and jumped in car.
Put phone away 5 minutes later and eat on run.
no chips!
Oh well I should have known better, but thought best stop, counted the change loverly young girl had taken
3 dollars more!
She got away with it.
I just did not have the time to drive back.
Nice people can also be criminals and if she did that 10 times a week?
