Have any of you taken the time to observe children's programming in the afternoons?
I remember when I was younger, which was not that long ago, there used to be fun filled creative cartoons that would go on imaginative journeys. Most of the plots and stories lines were simple, the artwork hand crafted with minimal to no digital assistance.
Having more time on my hands recently, I viewed a popular children's afternoon segment.Within this segment there was two different platforms of viewing. The first was a series of Computer Generated cartoons which involved complex storylines with even more complex reasoning by the main characters to reach a resolution.
Having a generation being captured by more original and simplistic cartoons, created the surge in popularity of occupations requiring more creativity and abstract thinking.
However, now children are being exposed to more Computer Generated cartoons with complexities, is this breeding a generation of Online Gamers? Is this refining our youth, desensitising them to complex issues within a digital realm?
The second viewing platform, was that of a childrens show with a sitcom formula. This formula has become more popular within recent years, however the show followed teenagers running a publishing firm and their day to day antics within their own positions.
Is this grooming our youth into corporate employment?
With more and more shows, even Australian favourites are showing more and more teenagers entering fields that are highly popular, but low demand.
Is this giving our youth an unrealistic view of the job force?
So if you have an afternoon free, sit down and watch some afternoon children's television programming.
I believe you will find the answer to why we are breeding an increasingly depressed generation.
