Origin Meltdown - one for the fotty fans

Well firstly, to all those ‘fotty knockers’, please respect our rights as fans and empty your baggage elsewhere.

Now as a Broncos fan since their inception back in the late 80’s, I have watched my beloved team get crucified during the origin series again and again.

Now you take the likes of Lockyer, Hunt, Hodges, Wallace and Issy out of any team in the world and it is unlikely they could remain competitive.

One of the downfalls of the younger players used to replace these guys through the series is the lack of match fitness. How can they be expected to compete with team of players who play 20 to 26 rounds per season, when they only get to play 4 or perhaps 6 matches in the top division.

My suggestion is to allow additional interchanges for effected teams.

Eg; say a team has three players on origin duty, then they should be allowed six additional interchanges, two per effected player. Now if the opposing team has two players out, then they get an additional four changes.

This way all teams are treated equal and the less experienced players get additional ‘time out’ to regain their stamina.

Either way, unless something dramatic happens we will continue to see our teams suffer from their own brilliance.

Does anyone have a better idea?

As a long-time Broncos supporter, I too watch each year in resignation as the seconds try valiantly to stem the flow of tries and put a couple on themselves.

I don't see it as a problem needing fixing by regulation, however. One big advantage is that it can close the gaps in the Pramiership table, giving a bit more interest to what would otherwise be a pretty processional affair in many seasons. It also provides some incentive for the coaches to give the young blokes more time in their Qld Cup sides and to use them more actively in NRL games. If properly managed, it can create a massive pool of talent for the clubs affected to draw on in future. Ultimately it's a coaching challenge, ISTM, just like injuries, illnesses and other reasons for substandard performances by star players. Good coaches work out how to avoid the worst of it, others flounder. Henjak still has a lot to learn.

Given that clubs like the Broncos and the Storm are already privileged, do they really need additonal help? Do we really want to see a Broncos final every year?

Well I am a footy fan, its my life in winter.
A saint, well if you insist Dragon, red V member too.
NRL is not helping us, any fan, in leveling the teams out by salary caps it is stopping improvement.
Looks at this time like Broncos are in for a win, Tigers are killing sharks, bet the anti footy mob arrive here.

Well belly, it's great to see we can agree on somethings, welcome aboard, as I to love my footy.

Now there are a few reasons why I love the broncos, The great wally lewis and benny.

In my opinion benny is our replacement for the late great Jack Gibbson, just a pitty you got him, but hey, the saints are now my second favourite team.

Now as for the salary cap.

I agree that we need some restrictions but I think it is cruel when a club seeks out talent, nurchers them through the ranks, helps develop them into rep players, then can't afford to keep them.

My solution would be a points system rather than a dollar system.

Say an Aus rep player is worth 8 points and a state rep player say 5 and a regular 1st grager 2 and a rookie 1.

If the player continues with thier club of origin then they get say half their points deducted from their worth. This way the players can earn what ever they are worth to the club and we may be able to keep more of our tallent from deffecting to other codes and or countries.

By the way, what do you think of the two refs and do you agree that some of the decisions made by the video refs are outrageous.

I also think the saints may have peaked to early. Here come the broncs!

Here we agree rechtub Gibson and Benny stand far out in front of any others.
Not sure we peeked to early, but did not like the effort this weekend, from us or your mobs rebirth watching others too.
Gold coast is no push over.
I however think the loss did us some Good.
A point worth mentioning the press beat up about grand final jumpers.
Bet if we looked every club in the finals prints it just in case.

The Broncos already have a great advantage in that there aren't enough Queensland Franchises to compete for advertising dollar and local playing talent. It's a market failure, but it's effect is luckily evened out by the State of Origin.

The Salary cap is basically communism, and the players should have no restriction on what they are worth.

Remove the Salary cap and players would get paid what they are worth, and if clubs go broke, that's natural. There are too many teams, and a 26 week competition where more than half the sides make the semi-finals (some who have even lost more games than they have won, with a negative for and against) is just ridiculous.

To me, the NRL selling point of '8 different premiers in 8 years' is a sure sign of encouraged mediocrity.

Since I'm in the mood, I will highlight further problems with the NRL.

a) The cross field bomb should be banned.
b) The video ref should be taken away
c) The interchange should be taken away.

The essence of rugby league is the line break. What we have now is two constantly fresh teams so there is no fatigue and no way to score except for cross field bombs and tall wingers.
